This process does not work for me. Webmaster keeps saying 'we weren't able to verify your site'. I'm using the Oxygen theme

That method of blog verification cannot be used for WordPress.com blogs as we cannot access metadata files on this multi-user blogging platform. You must use this process instead > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

While i was validating my webmasters from google with the meta key, it told me that the key wasn't placed in the header. So i checked the page source and it wasn't! The theme is: Skylark.
