Thanks for the advice. :)

I see what you mean about the review versus recap issue. Truthfully, I think I was doing both because you need a mixture. A recap alone is just telling the story. A review by itself won't help someone who hasn't seen the show. Also, it was an extremely more episode and so I think I put more comments in than I normally would.

I've changed the theme for my blog and I'm going to start doing recaps for one of the new shows this season, as well as a few old ones.

I was also trying to figure out whether you were trying to review the show. A recap, I think, needs to be a little more to-the-point.

Personally, I wouldn't read re-caps, though I know some do. I like to laugh, and "spoilers" kills any possibility of my being able to enjoy the jokes in a comedy show.

Also, the term I prefer, if this is what you intend to do consistently, is "Episode Guide". I do sometimes use episode guides to find out the name of a specific ep. I might want to TiVo.

I couldn't entirely tell if you were trying to write a "review" of the show or not. Reviews are a service to readers if you analyze what works and what doesn't about a show in more depth than a single viewing usually provides. But if you want to do that, you'll need to do research before writing so you can offer valuable info. For example, the reason Dharma and Gregg have cameos in this show is because THEIR show was the nearest previous hit sitcom created by the same guy, Chuck Lorre. He had also previously created Grace Under Fire, and a backstage conflict with the star of that show resulted in HIS getting fired. Perhaps he learned something about how to draw a line in the sand when up against a popular star?

Couple of suggestions if you want to stand out:

Create categories for each show you recap, that way people can easily look at the shows they want to know about.

If you're planning on making your blog mainly about show recaps, you might want to mention that in your About page.

See if you can customize your theme a bit (maybe a new theme with a customizable header). Personally, I'm attracted to blogs with simpler themes that have unique and memorable touches (header, widgets, etc.).

I think your actual recap was pretty good. I didn't watch the episode, but I got a pretty good idea of what happened and I thought your commentary was funny.

If you're going to do recaps, make sure you do them consistently for every episode of every show you choose to feature. That's why people go to recap sites, they want the history of the season as well as thoughtful/funny commentary. Success won't happen over night, but if you're consistent and stick with it you will probably gain a following. You might also want to start doing a recap for some of the brand new shows starting since people will be looking for recaps of new shows and you won't have much competition with other bloggers yet (well, not as much as long running shows have). Good luck!

I just wrote my first recap. It's on the season premiere of Two and a Half Men, “Nice to Meet You, Walden Schmidt.” I'd like to write more recaps, but I need constructive feedback on how to make this one better and stand out amongst the recaps of the Internet. Can someone please offer any advice?
