No it does not. The Blogger blog is on a .blogspot sub-domain just like .wordpress.com blogs are on sub-domains. Purchasing a domain name and domain mapping upgrade here has zero affect on the .blogspot blog.

What purchasing the domain name and domain mapping upgrade does is redirect from the .wordpress.com sub-domain URLs your content will be in to the domain you purchase.

I plan on purchasing a domain through WordPress with the domain mapping upgrade. I want people to be able to click or visit my old blogspot.com and automatically be redirected to the new WordPress.com. I am assuming the upgrade allows that no?

You can place a single post on your Blogger blog and place a link in it to your WordPress.com blog. If you do not have your own domain and are not purchasing a domain mapping upgrade from WordPress.com, then all the links to the content URLs in the blogspot blog will be broken. Every person who clicks them will experience a "404" (page not found". Google clears their caches every 3 - 6 months or so. That means your same content under the new .wordpress.com URLs will also appear in the SERPs (search engine page results) after that content is re-indexed by Google and the other search engines. The page rank and authority that your .blogspot posts earned belong to that .blogspot sub-domain and cannot be transferred. The new blog at WordPress.com starts from zero.

Once I have imported posts from my blogspot, how do I redirect traffic from the Blogger site to my new WordPress site? And once I do that, if I upgrade to a .com, does it affect the redirected traffic from Blogger.
