The image has to be uploaded to your WordPress.com Media Library.

I've been playing with my blog and it appears that only images uploaded to my gallery will work as featured images even though there is an option to use an image from a URL. I've tried images from URLs but it only gives the option to "Insert into post" - there is no button to click "set as featured image".

Is there any way to fix this? Or am I doing something wrong. I'd like to use images from my flickr account and it would make my life a lot easier if the URL option worked.
