To add posts to the Featured Post section just mark some posts as sticky. To have a big featured image you need to use an image that is at least as big as the header image (1000px x 288px). Also, make sure you have a set size for Large image under Settings → Media that allows for such sizes. Adding more than one sticky post will add slider controls to the top right of the featured post area as kjmadeja has said.

Damned annonying! The only way I can get them off the feature is to mark them as private. Even more annoying! I had my showcase page all set up nicely and now it's a mess.

What am I doing wrong??? Please help.
