You can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

I would like a specific wordpress.com domain (bigmess.wordpress.com), but when I type it in, it tells me that it is taken. When you navigate to the site, however, it states that the domain "is no longer available" and that "the authors have deleted this blog."
Since it is now an unused space, would it be possible for me to acquire it?
