<p>2) The easy way to add a JPG or other image file to your sidebar is the <em>Image</em> widget you already tried. The Image widget requires pasting an image URL. So first you upload the image via Media &#62; Add New and copy the File URL.<br />
Make sure the image is small enough to fit in the sidebar (for the theme you're using, maximum width is 229 pixels).

<p>You cannot upload any image directly into a sidebar.  The easy way to do this is to upload the image into a draft post and then switch to the Text (HTML) editor, copy the code and paste it into a text widget.<br />
