I'm sorry. I was confused about Guided Transfers. I was thinking that Guided Transfer would move my wordpress.com blog to not only "the recommended host of your choice", but also to a self-hosted server.

I do understand the difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com.

Thank you.

I don't see any benefit at all to starting here at WordPress.com. We don't provide support for local installs of WordPress.org software. That supported is provided here http://wordpress.org/support/ along with any advice you need. If you don't have a username account at WordPress.org, click that link and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the correct support forums for the software your intend to use.

I don't need help with a specific blog. I designed and have been maintaining a website for a town here in North Carolina for years now. My boss desperately wants a content management system. The town has their own server and I need to know if a Guided Transfer will work on a self-hosted site. In other words, could I create a blog on WordPress.com, pay for the upgrade bundle, and pay for a Guided Transfer to move the site to my bosses server? Or, would I need to learn WordPress.org.
