That domain appears to be in redemption at GoDaddy -- it may take a while before it's available for registration elsewhere, and there's no guarantee you'd be able to register it again.

You'll need to contact GoDaddy as soon as possible in order to renew the domain.

Once you renew the domain through them, you can map it to your WordPress.com blog by following this guide:

http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

The name servers on your domain will need to be changed to:

ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com
ns3.wordpress.com

GoDaddy has instructions for setting your name servers:

Could you give me a little more help in exactly how I do this? Why do I need to "point" it? Would it be because I used to have a (now defunct) go daddy account?

I can access my blog only directly thru the wordpress.com website (but followers cannot access blog).
