I've seen that article, but don't fully understand the permalinks with regard to search engine results - will the old posts eventually be re-indexed by search engines? I guess I just don't understand how it's any different from when those posts were first created.

Also, this article http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/ seems to imply that there might be other options as well. From what I understand, I think I can make a new blog and then either export my old blog and import all the files into the new one, or transfer ownership to the new blog.

Is that correct?

I would like to change my blog address with minimum hassle and without having to pay anything extra. I don't want any permalinks to the site broken, however, so I don't think I should simply change the address.

There is no free way to do this. This is how to change blog address > http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
If you do change your blog address, permalinks to your old address, including search engine results, will be broken unless you purchase a Site Redirect upgrade.

I'm aware of three options: Transferring my blog, exporting my blog and then importing it to to a new blog, or changing the address.

I don't want any permalinks to the site broken, however, so I don't think I should simply change the address.

Any comments or recommendations?
