I'm usually on WordPress several hours every day, and try to post, normally, 3 or 4 posts a day. Less lately. No tablet or smart phone.

I had a problem a few days before this started. I had just about finished a long post that had really taken me a lot of time, and clicked the 'save', and was told that it couldn't be saved because I was disconnected, and consequently the whole thing vanished except for the first 4 lines. I was furious, but I hadn't been saving frequently as I went along, so it was probably my fault, but I had no idea why I'd been disconnected — I explored around, looking at every item on the page, but as far as I know didn't change anything. I'd had some fleeting problems with things on the page not working quite right (preview button not working for example) but they were all fleeting and went away. I'm sorry, this is no help. I didn't, to my knowledge, resize the editor—I wouldn't know how, and I don't think I did it accidentally.

Hello azaozz,

I only use my desktop and laptop computers.

The problem started right after saving work, while editing a post in HTML mode. One unusual characteristic of my editing that day was the following: my wife was helping me that day (my hand is injured), and she had zoomed the text in to make it very large.

As I said before, I also approved a clever spam message an hour or two beforehand, one that had escaped the filter and looked quite authentic. I removed it almost immediately. I did not flag it, but I still may have a copy of it on email. Nothing about it is particularly notable, except for the smooth talk.

John

I hope that helps.

@theelephantschild and @theperfectipodcollection I'm glad the problem was resolved but we would still need to find out where that 17 million pixels setting came from.

Could you remember the last time you used the New Post or Edit Post screen before the problem? Did you use your usual computer and browser or perhaps used a tablet or even a smart phone? Also did you resize the editor (either Visual or Text)?

Thank you beforehand for any information.

Dear westi, macmanx, and the elephants,

What a wonderful surprise this morning to wake up and see the problem has been resolved. Thank you so much. I use WordPress almost every day, some days for hours at a time. This past week has been one of those experiences where you don't realize how important it is until it's gone.

I'm also happy I was able to study the various forum issues to find americanelephant and his identical problem. While macmanx had begun to help me on my own thread, things really started to head in the right direction once I piggybacked on elephant's thread.

Thanks; I'm stoked.

John

P.S. It's too bad I can't take everybody out for a nice meal. If you're ever in Portland, I'm buying!

@theelephantschild and @theperfectipodcollection this issue should now be resolved for you and anyone else suffering from it.

For some reason the height of your editors had both been set to over 17 Million pixels high which was hard for your browser to render ;)

I've fixed it up so this is no longer possible and you can now resize them down to a manageable size again.

I logged in under your accounts (so it is specific to your accounts) and saw that the post editor was (as far as I can tell) infinite in length (I gave up after a while).

I didn't see the mess, but I'm guess the size of the post editor is probably the root cause.

We're looking into this now.

I can only use the arrows on the scroll bar to move the type block up or down. I usually grabbed the bar below the arrow to move things faster than clicking. Now the slightest movement of the bar makes the whole thing go down an unknown amount--a lot. I can only click on the little arrows gingerly. I just had to disable 'likes and shares" and 'discussion' to get them off the type (New Post) block. And yes, there seem to be no bottom there.

Both computers checked for the simple stuff (add-ons, browser, HTTPS, etc.). Both computers now updated to Firefox 17.0. No changes.

It's hard to pinpoint why the Edit module became defective. On that day, my wife was doing the typing, and had zoomed in so the text was very large on screen. Also, mine stopped working properly immediately after saving the data.

Other clues:

1) The Visual mode works OK, though using the keyboard arrows to scroll does not perfect. One too many "up-arrow" commands will cause the cursor to jump to the top of the text, for instance. The HTML mode (which I generally use) is a mess. Any cursor movement within the text can cause the text to become blurry, or blacked out, or the cursor will leave a line of cursor marks whereever it moves.

I hope that helps.

John

Cache and cookies cleared. No change in edit page appearance.

The WordPress Support page verifies that third party cookies are enabled:
“Great, third party cookies are properly enabled in your browser!”

There was one extension, an Acrobat PDF 1.2 extension. Disabled, then rebooted Firefox and tried again. Problem still exists.

There are also a number of plug-ins. I disabled these as well, and rebooted. None of these worked.

Finally, I enabled HTTPS. I doubted this would be a problem, since 99-100% of my work takes place at home in a secure environment.

None of these worked to solve the problem. My editing page looks very similar to americanelephant’s page, with the boundless edit module and no scrolling bar. I use two columns as he does, and usually, the second column will fold under the first column, if I make the screen window narrow.

Thanks again. I hope we are making progress. I use Firefox 17.0, and am up to date.

As you can see, the "likes and shares" section and the "discussion" section are in front of the text box. You can kind of see the editing tools peeking out between them. Now. I can go to "screen options" and deselect these sections, and then get acccess to the editing text box, but obviously I dont want to have to turn everything off to view the text box. ALSO: If you look over to the scrollbar on the right, you'll notice how small the bar is -- that is because the text box has no bottom-- can't drag and drop these other sections beneath the add new post section, as we are supposed to be able to do.

Hopefully that all makes sense, and hopefully you can help! :D

Thanks very much!

I opened a second test blog about a day ago, and the editor worked fine for about an hour, until changing to this new problem, an Editor module with no scrollbar.

I am having the same problem, with slightly different results. Most importantly, the editing area has lost its scroll bar, and now continues down unbounded. (Not forever, but for a long ways). The problem shows up on all posts and pages when placed in Edit mode. Finally I found someone with the same problem. Wondering whether upgrading to premium service might help. FYI, I approved a spam comment that evaded the Aksimet filter on the day this problem started, if that is helpful. I removed it almost immediately.

Yeah, we tried that. Unfortunately, neither one makes the problem go away. other sections (for lack of the right word) appear in front of & obscuring the "write new post" text box and editing tools, and the text box still goes down forever with no end, so we cant drag the other sections beneath it -- same problem happens whether it's 1 column or 2, but at least with 2 columns, some boxes move over to the right hand column, so we dont have to turn them off. Any idea what is causing this, or how to really fix it (other than unchecking all the boxes)? Just want it to work like it's supposed to. Thanks for your help! :)

clarification: Not only are the text box and editing buttons for the "add new post" section being covered up (until I turn off all other sections), but it has no bottom under which to drag and drop the other sections, it just goes on down forever. Hope that makes sense & hope it helps. Odd, because my fellow blogger is not having the same problems. I am using the latest version of Firefox (v. 17) and Windows 7 Home premium.

I was able to figure out part of what is going wrong. Let me see if I can describe it accurately. (I'm not a techie, so forgive me.) When I open the "add a new post" window, it turns out that the different sections of that page (the ones you can drag and reorganize) are now appearing on TOP of others for some unknown reason, obscuring the other sections behind them. For example, the "likes and shares" and "discussion" sections were appearing in front of, instead of beneath, the "add post" section. I tried to drag them down, but the minute I let go with my mouse, they pop right back to where they were, obscuring the "add new post" section. The only way I can even see the text box in which I write the actual text for the posts is to go to "screen options" and turn OFF the "likes and shares" and 'discussion" sections so they don't appear on screen. Pretty sure this isn't the way the interface is supposed to work. Any idea what I can do to make it work properly, so that I can view all the different sections the way they are supposed to be -- one after another, instead of on top of one another -- other than just turning off the offending sections?

Thanks you VERY much for all your help. It is much appreciated! :D
