I'm trying to set it up that people who "Follow" my blog and provide their email address will get my free ebook

I don't think you clearly understand online privacy issues. When we comment on blogs we provide an email address soely for the purpose of commenting and not for any other purpose. When we subscribe to a blog we provide an email address solely for the purpose of receiving posts after publication and not for any other purpose.

You can place a contact form on your blog. Above the short code for that contact form you can clearly state why you want this personal information (email address). Then those readers who do consent to that can signify their williness to have their email address used for the purpose you state by using the contact form.

I'm trying to set it up that people who "Follow" my blog and provide their email address will get my free ebook - is this the same issue that villagedrummerfiction is experiencing? I found that I can find email information under "stats" but it would be so much easier if they provided the email address when they notify us of a "new follower"...

You can never find out the info on your RSS subscribers. Sounds like you're getting it from your email subscribers.

I would suggest that until you are able to verify everyone who is subscribed to your blog, you stop offering that contest. Do a comment or incoming link contest instead; these are things you can verify. Or do a comment-to-sign-up-for-our-newsletter contest, and put those emails in a database.

That seems odd. One of the marketing things I'm doing is offering a chance to win 2 books by subscribing to my blog. If I can't tell who is subscribing, how do I provide added incentive to sign up?

An strange thing just happened. I just got a notice with the subscriber's information included. I hope that continues. I also would like to find out who the other "someone"s are on my subscriber list.

Thanks,
Richard

I am getting notification of subscribers to my blog but they do not tell who subscribed. The message is:

Someone just subscribed to receive an email every time you publish a post at http://villagedrummerfiction.wordpress.com. Congratulations.

If they subscribed via an invite, I can check my invite lists to find out who. But if they subscribe via the link on my blog or website, I get the above useless notification.

"Comment author must fill out name and e-mail" is checked in my discussion settings.

How do I get the info on new subscribers? Help please.

Richard Alan
