I can't be sure how many readers tried to leave a comment, got an error and gave up.

What kind of an error do you mean please? These explain what's changed when it comes to commenting and why it was changed:

It does not happen all the time and I can't be sure how many readers tried to leave a comment, got an error and gave up.
We appreciate any help we can get. We are just starting to blog and feedback is essencial.
