One more note on my above comment, like Pinterest, it's clearly written in the WordPress.com TOS that if you reblog something to your WordPress.com site, if the original copyright owner takes legal action, it will be directed at the member who reblogged it, not WordPress.com.

Jan, the Pinterest sharing button on WordPress.com that everyone was asking for and which was made available is optional. You don't have to use it in your site unless you want to. Obviously, those that clamored for having the Pinterest share button are not the same people who want to have Pinterest blocked, unless they've changed their minds.

The Pinterest "Pin It" bookmarklet is, for all intents and purposes, "Press This". It was only after Pinterest became a tsunami that they released the meta tag that allows site owners to block others from using the "Pin It" bookmarklet on their site and pinning their material. I can only hope that WordPress.com will give us the option in our settings, especially since sites like flickr have already done so.

For now, like reblogging, either you learn to live with it or you go someplace where you can include the meta tag in your site's header info.

Not too long ago, there was just one camp on WordPress.com - those who begged for Pinterest on WordPress. How quickly that changed, so has Pinterest's Terms of Use. Just about every social sharing site I know says they own your stuff. I'm a professional photographer who prefers to live life in a meaningful productive way than to fight what may be / usually is a lost cause. My view of Pinterest: Pinterest Drives 30% More Traffic to My Blog.

@yarngoddess-In my opinion, not likely. Apparently reblogging, whether on WordPress.com, Pinterest, Tumblr or elsewhere, is the new black.

Some of us users argued vehemently against reblogging when it was introduced on WordPress.com. It's still here thanks to the fact that when you signed up for the service you gave WordPress.com the right to redistribute your content, "solely for the purpose of displaying, distributing and promoting your blog." Take a good look at Para 2.

+1 for finding a way to block Pinterest on WP.com sites. Not only does Pinterest claim to own your images, but it also strips out all metadata from the images so they can claim not to be aware that an image is copyrighted.

this is an extremely important copyright issue! it is just plain stealing to pin, to reblog, or post to tumblr without the copyright holder's explicit permission. the internet is <i>not really</i> public domain. i really urge wordpress to find a way for even the free users to have easy access to this blocking feature. i know i don't post nearly as much as i used to for this very reason.

What's required is not a widget. The code “This site doesn’t allow pinning to Pinterest. Please contact the owner with any questions. Thanks for visiting!” works much the same way robots.txt does in keeping search engine spiders from crawling your site. There are many WordPress.com bloggers primarily but not exclusively artists and photographers who want this ability.
