Agreed. I just billed a client $600 for three hours of my time wasted because she refused to go ahead and just publish a post to see what it did to her front page. Blog templates are set up to work with content; with no content, they don't look or work right.

Sometimes bloggers spend days trying to set up Categories etc. in advance. They posts repeatedly to the forum struggling because they have set idea of what they want but don't have a clue how to achieve what they want.

I think that setting what you want in your main blog aside for awhile, registering another test blog you make private, and simply working through the tutorial step by step until you have mastered everything in the test blog is the way to go. Once you have done that then you have the knowledge and skills and you can focus on developing your main blog. Thereafter you can export the content out of the main blog and import it into the test blog so it becomes a backup blog.

Also note that the reason your front page plays this:

Not Found
Apologies, but no results were found for the requested archive. Perhaps searching will help find a related post.
is simply because you deleted the placeholder Hello World post and it will disappear as soon as you publish a post, not a page.
