Do the servers effect wordpress thumbnails/pictures from showing up in blogs?

That's a good idea bloggenbent (maybe start a thread in the Ideas bit?). It'd be especially helpful if that account-strip was shown at the top of the forum pages too so you could still read it when the blog servers were out.

If they're rolling out new hardware we can expect a fair bit of instability over the coming weeks, until all the new servers are online and all the glitches ironed out. Short-term pain, long-term gain.

Although, given the obvious inability to cope of their current infrastructure, one wonders why Automattic didn't temporarily shut down signups or reinstate the invite system rather than continue to pile new users in.

A slight suggestion then:

When you're logged into the blog there's a little account strip at the top of the page.

Why not add a a global application variable like $public_message, and then add a snippet to the account strip code that publish a message when you plan to bring the site down for maintenance?

That way poor bloggers needn't panic when the server suddenly takes a nap. :)

All is fine here, but it did slow for a while as I was fiddling with themes... (Finally settled on one at last that suits me and Firefox.)

Back up (it really was a few minutes). I think the need for maintenence was mentioned after the big crash bloggenben? Moments inconvenience for a long-term improvement is always worth it - it just doesn't feel like it at the time!

Sure we'll be back to the usual, boring, stability soon enough. Hang in there.

Not a crash, a few minutes of maintenance. Sorry for the interruption.
We're moving to new hardware soon that will be able to cope better with the huge amount of traffic the site is doing.
