50% of my scheduled posts miss the mark

  1. Hi

I'm a bit baffled and don't know what to do anymore.
I write my posts and schedule them to be posted at a specific time of day - typically.

What's been happening is that all the quotes that I have scheduled gets published automatically according to schedule - GREAT!

The other posts, using the Standard or Image format, have a tendency to Miss Schedule. When I notice it and change the pull down to Published, the post will publish onto WP - but sometimes it does not post to Twitter.

Can someone suggest more? I've looked at the Media Troubleshoot page and it's not helping.

    Thanks in Advance!
    Karen

The blog I need help with is singlewomantravel.wordpress.com.

  2. Scheduled posts do not publish until the first visitor to the site after the date and time scheduled clicks in and triggers publication of the post.

  3. Using an automated process to trigger the post does appear to work - we just need something to execute the scripts for the site, which will check for any posts timed for publication.

Emails should go out at approximately the same time as the post is published, but there sometimes may be a delay.

... Just FYI for anyone reading this in the future, I used this free http request scheduler: http.sh

  4. Thanks for this answer - but doesn't help with why the scheduled posts using the Quote formats ALWAYS posts on their own. While all the others does not.

    WordPress support? Anyone?

  5. Hi again,
Indeed but I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  6. Ah okay - thanks for doing that. I'm subscribed - I was just worried people thought all's well after you responded :)

  7. Understood and hang in there. :)

  8. None of your scheduled posts should publish until someone (even you) visits the blog. The visit triggers an update that forces the post to appear.

My guess is that you're getting visits on the quote format posts without realizing it, and the fact that they post on time is pure coincidence.

That was my guess too. Thanks for the catch here.

  10. I did a test - scheduled a post before the daily quote for today. This morning, the quote got posted. The photo post Missed schedule - even though I had scheduled it to post 1 full hour before the quote post.

    I don't get it.

  11. I just tested this with a regular scheduled post and a scheduled quote format post, and visiting the page forced both to publish simultaneously.

In your case, did your photo post not publish at all, or was it delayed?

  12. It was not published at all.

Actually there are posts I have scheduled to be published in November still sitting there labeled as Missed schedule.

  13. That's interesting. This could be due to the fact that you have more than 100 scheduled posts. I'd recommend that you place some posts in draft status so that you have fewer than 100 scheduled, and see if that allows the scheduled posts to work in the future.

For those that were skipped, you can manually publish them now.
