I'm dropping the thread because although we still have the occasional 503's the mushroom cloud we had last night has dispersed :)

Your quick attention to this the other day is much appreciated, but I am sorry to have to report two 503 errors this session while editing a post, one "shorting out" the whole edit/post page after "publish", the other occurring only in the upload file box on the post and edit page.
