A few general and theme-specific (Spun) customization questions

  1. New to the Spun theme and I'm loving it so far. There are a few things I have yet to figure out on my own that I'm hoping someone can help with.

    1. I'd like post titles to appear in the circles upon rollover.

    2. I've set the number of visible posts to 20, but I'd like to add the "more" button to the category pages (similar to the home page).

    3. Some body text in older posts varies in size. I've tried to reset the font size via the customization panel, as well as using custom CSS, yet neither fixes anything. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: http://freshandfoodie.com/2013/05/01/bourbon-fruit-crumble-and-the-story-of-us/

    I think that's it! Thanks in advance.

  2. 1. Add this:

    .hentry .thumbnail-title {
    display: none;
    }
    .hentry:hover .thumbnail-title {
    display: block;
    }

    3. Neither fixes anything, because you've got wrong code in the post itself. You need to edit the post and remove all of these:
    <span style="line-height:1.714285714;font-size:1rem;">
    along with their corresponding closing tags.

    In the future never copypaste from other sources (such as Word) into the Visual editor. When you need to paste, paste into the Text editor then switch back to Visual if necessary.

    2. The Older Posts button activates the infinite scroll script. You can't reproduce this on other pages.

    But there seems to be an oversight on Spun. On all themes, archive pages display some sort of previous/next navigation links (when the number of posts is larger than the number you've set in Settings > Reading). Spun should have arrows left and right (similar to those you see on the single post view), but these are missing. This is something that needs to be fixed by WP, so I'll tag this thread for staff attention.

  3. Thank you -- this is all very helpful.

    .hentry .thumbnail-title {
    display: none;
    }
    .hentry:hover .thumbnail-title {
    display: block;
    }

  5. @freshandfoodie: You're welcome.

    Re 1: Now that I'm seeing the result, I find it a bit strange that the title shows up abruptly while the circles become darker gradually. So try this instead of my previous suggestion and see if you like it better:

    .hentry .thumbnail-title {
    display: block;
    opacity: 0;
    transition: all .3s ease-in-out 0;
    -webkit-transition: all .3s ease-in-out 0;
    }
    .hentry:hover .thumbnail-title {
    opacity: 1;
    }

    Also, some of the images have very light colors. Adding a shadow effect to the titles might make them stand out a little more. Would you like to try this?

  6. Yes, please. I played around with different font colors, but it seems like white still works best. Hopefully shadowing helps.

  7. Also, one more question since you're here.

    I'm trying to create a custom index page based on categories. Any help there?

    Thanks so much.

  8. a) Add this to .hentry:hover .thumbnail-title:
    text-shadow: 0 0 4px #000000;

    b) "index page based on categories": more precisely?

  9. I'd like to create a page that links to each of my posts. However, rather that pulling the entire site archive, I want to be able to customize it -- more specifically, I only want pull the links that have been tagged/categorized (aka: recipes).

  10. You mean you want a heading that says "Food & Craft Beer" followed by links to the posts filed under that sub-category, then a heading that says "Food & Booze" followed by links to the posts filed under that sub-category, etc? If so, you need to use one version of the display-posts shortcode, as many times for as many sub-categories. See this support doc:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/
    If you can't figure it out, let me know.

  11. Figured it out. Thanks so much for all your help.
