A spike in views?

  1. Starting this Friday my view count has been extremely erratic and still is. I generally held a loyal 5 to 10 views at the max however this weekend it took an immediate spike. I posted a new blog last night for example and before I even logged out minutes later I had 6 views. Is there anyway to determine where and the heck my blog is linked to, out of my own curiosity and or is there something else going on behind the scenes. The stat summary charts are showing that all hits are on my home page not anything specific and there are no traces and where it is coming from.

    Thanks for the consideration!

The blog I need help with is whatzthatallabout.wordpress.com.

  2. To understand what is and what is not displayed in your stats please see this emtry in the dupport documentation. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

  3. Thanks again timethief, but I looked in this area already and still can't resolve this inquire on my own. Since this inquire my stat views simply keeps jumping up. Not sure what is going on but something is.

    thanks for your time anyway,

  4. Post/page views are included in total views, but there are many views to your site that are not a post or page URL. The front pages, category/tag/date/author archives, and searches are all examples of other views that only count towards total views.

  5. “Post/page views are included in total views…”, yes I understand that.

“…but there are many views to your site that are not a post or page URL.” – So my views that are being calculated are not actual views? Sorry but I am not sure what is meant by this, would you be kind enough to try to explain that one again?

“The front pages, category/tag/date/author archives, and searches are all examples of other views that only count towards total views.”

I really appreciate your efforts and just realized that this is all volunteered driven in the support forum. It reads like you know what is going on in my situation but I am just not getting it!

I am ready just to roll up the blog I think. It is almost creepy…!

Thanks again for your time on this, appreciate it.

  6. What is a page view? A page view is a request to load a single page of an internet site that results from a page request from a web surfer clicking on a link on another HTML page which is pointing to the page in question.

WordPress.com stats are based on Page views. If one person clicks into your blog and views 5 pages that total is 5 page views.

What is a unique visitor? A unique visitor is access from a single IP to a web server that generates page views and hits during a particular visit. When a visitor has cookies disabled, there is no way of establishing if they are a unique visitor or not.

WordPress.com stats do not track unique visitors, countries, IP addresses, or other details.

  7. I understand the page view.

What I am baffled at is the sudden dramatic urge in page views on my site. Do you know why this is occurring?

If I understand what you have referred to correctly, the view counts are not accurate or not actual visitors to my blog space.

No need to apologize for the fact I don’t get it, I just appreciate anyone replying to me on this.

I should contact the paid staff, it jumps keep spiking all day today. Something is definitely wrong or going on.

    Thanks again!

  8. What I am baffled at is the sudden dramatic urge in page views on my site. Do you know why this is occurring?

No I'm sorry I don't. When I see a sudden traffic spike it's usually due to one of my posts being stumbled and then I witness hundreds of unexpected of pageviews.

  9. I think I just figured it out!

I noticed today that under the search engine terms that 57 views were accounted for over the term coffee. I searched out coffee images on google and guess what? I got linked up to my own blog space!

I thought since I turned off the search engines no one would randomly drop in. I went into my media library and edited the coffee image I was using and wiped out the URL link to my blog space. I have for every other image just in case.

I am rather content with my 10 views a day.

I so hope this puts a stop to the freaky spike in views but why all of a sudden folks are searching out this particular coffee image is baffling all the same. I already sent a note to support!

If anything does not change, I will drop in to report otherwise.

Thanks again for the time you spent on this today!

  10. You're welcome but don't get lost in the world of numbers, okay? ;) Blogging successfully means remaining focused on creating fresh content frequently, promoting it and creating relationships with commenters -- come hell or high water. ;)

  11. NOPE!

I take it back. It did not work!

    Darn!

I can’t shake that one image off of me! I deleted the darn thing, wiped it out of my blog space, computer and the like and it still links up to me!

    Now how is that possible?

Hopefully support staff will be able to shed some light on this mystery for me!

  12. Lost in the world of numbers?? No worries on that note...I am not here for high number views not even for successful blogging really, that is too much work. I just don't want some creepy peeping Tom on my blog!

  13. If you daleted the image from the Media Library then there will be no image to dispaly. When a reader clicks the URL there will be nothing for their browser to display. To delete any files or uploads from your WordPress.com blog’s Media Library, start the process by navigating to Media -> Library in your blog’s dashboard: http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-files/

  14. Soory about the typo "deleted" is of course what I meant to type. These are the images in Google's image cache that are on your blog http://www.google.ca/images?um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&biw=1263&bih=680&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=whatzthatallabout.wordpress.com&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=

  15. I just don't want some creepy peeping Tom on my blog!

Then your only alternative is to change thethe visibility on your blog to private.
