   Is there any way - probably a widget - to say: "X days passed since I started dating Jane" or "X days left until Jack's birthday"?

   The Ticker Factory will enable you to do that.

   wow,i think it would be kinda hard because the width of the widget i think most probably will exceed the widget column of most theme

   The ticker factory thing does fit in a text widget. I've used it myself in the past.
