   I understand there isn't a way to "claim" an abandoned site. However, this one in particular (http://norcross.wordpress.com/) has the initial "hello world" post from 2008 and nothing since. No contact info, nothing. Is there any way of getting a hold of the owner to take it over?

   Leave a comment on the hello world post, if they have comments enabled. If not, or if they do not respond, or if they say no, then you figure out a different URL.

   @norcross: Is your intention to map the blog in question to a domain name or a subdomain (for example blog.andrewnorcross.com)? In that case, the __.wordpress.com address you choose has no importance, eh?

   Leave a comment on the blog and hope they have the notify them of comments is about the only way. WordPress.com will not release any information about any blog, it's a privacy issue.
