add subscribe/search to the masthead?

  1. I am using the Duet theme and have Custom Design CSS purchased and am hoping to add a subscribe and search button to the masthead. Is that possible? If not in the header, then maybe in the footer? And if not either of those options can I create a page and have it be just a subscribe/search page where those options are in the center column and not just the sidebar? Thanks!

  2. Hello there,
This is just to let you know that although Staff do provide CSS editing support they are temporarily unavailable:

Support will be closed over the weekend. We will reopen by 8am Pacific Time on Monday, March 12th. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

  3. checking in to see if there are any thoughts about this? any replies?

  4. Your theme is a premium theme and we Volunteers answering questions on this forum have no access to those themes and no knowledge of how they are designed to operate. When you purchased your premium theme what came with that purchase was support directly from the theme designer in the Premium Theme Support Forum. There is a link for the specific Premium Theme support forum under Appearance -> Themes in your blog’s Dashboard

I'm sorry I can't help with CSS editing either. Only Staff provide CSS editing support these days and I believe they may be on some sort of Happiness Engineers working meet-up. Last year at this time they met in Vienna. I don't know where they may be meeting this year or even if they are meeting. I do hope you will receive help soon.

  5. ok I posted there too, thank you for your advice!

In any WordPress.com theme, you can only add the follow blog widget and a search widget to sidebar areas which are controlled through your Appearance → Widgets page.

For the Duet theme, it has a layout option to turn the sidebar on or off under Appearance → Theme Options.

And if not either of those options can I create a page and have it be just a subscribe/search page where those options are in the center column and not just the sidebar?

Currently, it's not possible to add subscribe (follow) or search widgets to a page in WordPress.com.

There's a possible workaround to do what you are asking though. It does take some work, and I'd be happy to help you with it! What you could do is enable the sidebar, add the subscribe (follow) and search widgets you want, and then position them somewhere else on the page (like the header) while also styling out the space used up by the sidebar.

If you're interested in getting more help to try that out, please enable the sidebar in Duet, setup the widgets you want, and post a link back to your blog in a reply here.
