Add This! social bookmarking button and rss suscribe button

  1. Do I have to place anything on my specific posts for it to work on all my blog?

    (1) No.
    (2) These widgets are for your readers' use. If they are already registered members of social bookmarking organizations then the widget provides a quick way to add a bookmark to your site.
If you would like to become a member of any social networking site then it's up to you to decide and to register.
    (3) I know of no reason why you cannot go to =>Presentation => Sidebar widgets and rearrange your left sidebar widgets as desired or add to them. :)

  2. Hi Timethief,
Thanks for the codes that you provided. I copy and pasted them into a Text 2 widget and they showed up on the front of my blog. I clicked the social book marking page and it showed all the sites that involve social book marking. When I clicked on the Rss feed, it opened a window and I was given these 2 messages (see below). I am not sure what is up with these 2 messages. Are my blogs going to be noticed now by social bookmarks and the like?

Warning: fopen() [function.fopen]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/addthis/public_html/feed.php on line 603

Warning: fopen(http://secondchancetolive ME.wordpress.com/feed) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/addthis/public_html/feed.php on line 603
    could not open feed

  3. I believe the error messages may be a result of not entering the name of your blog correctly into the code. Remember that you had to replace "YOUR_BLAGNAME" in the code with your actual blog's name.

The reason people join social bookmarking groups is to increase traffic to their blogs.

  4. Timethief,
This is what I have in my text 2 widget. I am continuing to get the Warning messages below. ???

    <img src="http://s3.addthis.com/button1-bm.gif" width="125" height="16" border="0" alt="AddThis Social Bookmark Button" />

    <img src="http://s3.addthis.com/button1-rss.gif" />

Warning: fopen() [function.fopen]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/addthis/public_html/feed.php on line 603

Warning: fopen(http://secondchance.tolive. wordpress.com/feed) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/addthis/public_html/feed.php on line 603
    could not open feed

  5. Sorry for the duplications above. Thought if I tried again, the correct code with my blog name would show up for your to see. It seems to get cut off each time I try and leave a reply. Bottom line is that I have correctly placed my blog name in the area of the code, but I am still receiving the warning messages. I am at my wits end on what to do to fix the matter and get my RSS Feed operating with the Social Networking. I want to get my blog to those readers, but am clueless. Can anyone else help?

  6. Someone bump this for me in a little bit and I'll look at it. Which specific link are you clikcing on and it's not working?

    I deleted the dupes. :)

  7. Never mind. Secondchance is still using the 'www' bit within their URL. That's part of the reason. That and the link in broken. This is what's posted there for a link:

http://www.addthis.com/feed.php?&h1=http://www.secondchancetolive.(A whole lot of empty space here)wordpress.com/feed

Need to remove the 'www' bit and the empty space that's in there.

    Hope this helps,
    -drmike

  8. Hi Dr. Mike,
Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry I have not responded sooner. I had some business to take care of and just got on the site recently. I followed your instructions and removed the www. and the space and saved the settings to my side bar Widgets and am still continuing to get the below Warning. Any suggestions? Thank you for your patience and help. I will include the way I have my code in the text 2 widget below.

    <img src="http://s3.addthis.com/button1-rss.gif" />

Warning: fopen() [function.fopen]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/addthis/public_html/feed.php on line 603

Warning: fopen(http:// secondchancetolive.wordpress.com/feed) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/addthis/public_html/feed.php on line 603
    could not open feed

  9. this time there's an extra space after 'http://' and the rest of the blag feed URL:

    http:// secondchancetolive.wordpress.com/feed
_______^ -- remove this space char
  10. That was the ticket. I am recognized. Thanks so much for your patience in helping me sort this one out. Have a great Tuesday.

  11. I have added the "Add this.com" button as advised above to my blog. One button on the side bar and one on my last post. I don't know if I did it right, it looks ok. Could somebody try it and tell me if it works the way it should.

    You're most welcome.

  15. To: Anyone who adds that button to their blog
You may want to know it is owned by: Yahoo. Yahoo harvests, saves, disseminates, sells personal information on all of its users. Who gets the information they collect?

    1. Their advertisers
Corporations who advertise on their websites; businesses that pay Yahoo for the info so they can inturn "deliver" ads on a page they think will 'appeal' to you, based on what they know about you --from Yahoo.

    2. The US feds
When the White House occupant's 'general' Gonzales sent out gross, mass search warrants on search engines: Google refused to turn over any info on users, what users looked at, e-mail addresses or any thing. Yahoo didn't mind, they handed over personal info on millions of users, their searches and more --even though: the search warrant was vague, failed to name a single person/target, specific dates; was illegal, directly violated US Constitution and The Bill of Rights. Oh well.

    Don't say you weren't warned.

  16. Google DID turn over that information, although they stalled, if memory serves. And of course MSN did as well.

  17. I've coded a greasemonkey script that will add the social bookmarking buttons with working links to your blog post and does same thing as some social plughins for wordpress.org blogs. It may be an alternative for Addthis or you can use these buttons with addthis.

You can check it(also i use this in ma blog) at---
    http://targetlife.wordpress.com/2007/07/07/most-convinient-way-to-add-social-bookmarking-buttons-links-to-wordpress-com-blog-post/

  18. yahoo's writing in footer of their websites that they are using our personal information....

  19. I have the buttons (rss and bookmark) on my side bar text widgets.

Now how do I add the button to each post?
AddThis site says "Upload it into your wp-content/plugin directory".

    Thanks.

  20. This cannot be done automatically here. We do not have plugins at wordpress.com. This means we must simply add the code to each post.

  21. Thanks.

How will I see the button instead of the whole code? I was pasting the code in the post.

  22. When using the text rich visual editor the button code must be entered when the "code" tab is in use and not under the "visual" mode. See icon #17 http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/15/what-do-all-the-icons-mean/

  23. Excellent. Thanks man!

  24. You're welcome (said the lady). ;)

  25. whoops! :)

  26. I have a problem with the add this feed button

I have the "add this bookmark" button appear and work on my blog
but the minute I add the "add this feed" button - both "add this " buttons dissappear

I have aslo tried disabling my rss and email feeds when doing the above - just in case there was some kind of conflict
    but it made no difference.

wondering if someone can help me
have asked the question from the 'addthis.com' folks - but no replys as yet.

fyi the hosted blog site is http://miroslodki.wordpress.com/

  27. as a html illiterate, thank you very much for making it so easy to get my widgets working for me!!
