Adding a header in Duotone theme

  1. My blog is: http://martinsoler.com

    I switched to Duotone as I have a photoblog. I bought the CSS change upgrade and tried to put in a header in the CSS.

    The exact code I put in was:
    background:url('http://martinsoler.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/blog-logo2.png') no-repeat;
    padding-top:70px;

    in the HEADER section.

    I put the entire original CSS and changed that part.

    The background of the entire blog turned white, the text changed and I had no image. So I cancelled the whole thing and am back to the original CSS.

    A friend of mine said that it seems the CSS in wordpress that we can view is not the same as the actual CSS that the theme uses.

    I know there are not many people that can help but if someone can - it would really be great!!!

    The blog I need help with is martinsoler.com.

  2. Your blog is fantastic but I regret going on there. Now I feel so inferior with amateur photos, that I am now running like a dog with his tail between the legs. I have subscribed and added you to my blogroll, so I have something to aspire to...slowly but surely :)

  3. Thanks a lot for the compliment. I enjoyed your blog too! Do you have any ideas on customizing the CSS for the my theme?

  4. Martin,

    I put the entire original CSS and changed that part.

    That's not a good idea because you'll get undesired results as you already experienced. To avoid that, you only need to put you changes/additions to the CSS in the CSS Editor. Read this for more info:

    Now, regarding your header, I would suggest aligning the image to the right so it doesn't interfere with the blog title and description:

    #header {
    background: transparent url('http://martinsoler.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/blog-logo2.png') top right no-repeat;
    height: 75px;
    }

    If you want your header image align to the left, then use this code:

    #header {
    background: transparent url('http://martinsoler.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/blog-logo2.png') 0 0 no-repeat;
    height: 75px;
    }

    HTH

  5. Thanks a lot devblog. I read the article and finally understand how that is meant to work. I put in the text you gave me on my CSS sheet (and no other text) and what happens is that I get the 75px (header expands) but I don't have any image in the background.
    I saved it so you can check it out here: http://martinsoler.com
    But no luck.

  6. Correction,
    THANKS A LOT DEVBLOG - It worked. Somehow the preview didn't work but later when I went on the site it was OK. So thanks for the help.
