Adding Author to posts in Highwind theme

  1. I didn't realize that the Author names don't show up on posts when I set up our blog using the Highwind theme because WP documentation assured me "it would show up when there are multiple authors" but it didn't.

The theme author says he's added it to his version of the theme (conversation here: https://github.com/jameskoster/highwind/issues/32#issuecomment-29881895 ) but I really need it to work on my WordPress.com hosted multi-author blog.

Can someone update the build on WordPress.com to include this feature? Thank you!

The blog I need help with is frontierfields.wordpress.com.

  2. I'll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  3. Thank you! I tried sending a message through support and there was no response, wasn't sure what my other options were...

  4. Posting here provides answers quicker in most cases that emailing does. Doing both is not wise because Staff service the email support request and the threads tagged here for them as would be expected in datestamp and timestamp order. If you email again or bump a thread the timestamp moves forward.

  5. I figured as much... I didn't post here until several days had passed with no response at all the other way. I wish I'd known the theme didn't have that feature to start with, if it can't be updated I'll have to start over again with a different theme.

  6. Hi there,

Thanks for posting this request! I passed this along to our team, to see if this is something we can add to the Highwind theme here at WordPress.com. I'll let you know what I find out from them.

If you're interested, you can check out our Theme Showcase, to search for themes and see what features are included in each theme. You can also check out live demos of each theme — here's the Highwind demo as an example: http://highwinddemo.wordpress.com/

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

  7. @rachelmcr - Not to say that I don't love the Theme Showcase, but if it actually DID list every feature each theme has to offer, such as author byline, image captions on hover, and the like, I'd be walking on the clouds...or at least 2 inches off the ground. :)

Somehow I was under the impression that once a second author published on a multi-author/group site, then the author byline would show up. I guess I was wrong.

  8. @ spacesteph - Our team just added the author to the Highwind theme for WordPress.com. Thanks again for the suggestion! Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

@ justjennifer - It's true, the theme showcase isn't exhaustive. There are so many features that I'm not sure it would be feasible to try to keep track of all of them. Are there particular features you think would be most useful to add — whether in the theme search or the theme descriptions? I can pass along your thoughts to the team for future iterations/improvements on the theme showcase. :)

  9. @rachelmcr - Thanks! Perfect!

Also re: showcase features, the author one was significant because there's no way to preview it easily in the showcase itself and all the documentation about WP itself simply assured me it "would be there when needed" so it was an unpleasant surprise when it wasn't. Perhaps "multi-author support" as a descriptor? Or change the demo template to include multiple authors?

  10. Thanks for those ideas, spacesteph! I see what you mean about not being able to preview it easily in the showcase, and I'll pass that feedback along to our team. :)

I also wanted to mention that you can preview how a particular theme looks on your site by going to Appearance > Themes in your dashboard. You can search for the theme on that page, and then click the Preview button. That way, you can see just how the theme will look when you activate it on your blog.

    Cheers!

  11. @rachelmcr- I am sure other members could come up with Theme Showcase feature suggestions as well. :)

The one feature that sticks out in my mind, besides the obvious author byline that this thread highlighted, is the "Author Profile" box that appears under the post in some themes.

  12. I'm sure other users could, and I'd be happy to pass along their suggestions, too. :) I can't guarantee that they'll be added to the showcase, but the team will consider those ideas!
