Need help? Check out our Support site, then
play with words as long as you wish if you have time, when you will post what I posted in same time as you get your work done, at the speed at which I do it, jungling between French and English, VB.NET and C#, ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0, HTML and CSS, XML and MXML.... will see how much time you will have to play smart.
Have you considered spending all the time and energy that you are putting into using this support forum as your personal soapbox to rail against wordpress into posting to your wordpress.com blog instead?
If you took the contents of all the posts you have made to the forum today and put them into your wordpress.com blog in the form of posts then, you could stimulate dialog and comments on your blog. You could get hits on your wordpress blog and increase your page rank on your blog. But posting into forum threads here doesn't achieve any of those goals.
Now you made a point !!! I am way overdue but yes, it is half way done (where done is containing enough pertinent information to be opened). For now, it is called Fratlabs and is reserved to my clients and I. But I am not here to promote my work, and this is actually going to make you laugh but one day you will understand: I like WordPress, they are the best around. That is why it get me MAD to see how much they are sparing their value and going down the wrong way with that template thing and no java no html.
I am helping them right now, by raising opinions.
NB: Actually you just got me an idea, I should blog about why and what WP is doing wrong... maybe that will force the way for change if enough people react. How many users or viewers do you thing I can get in lets say less then 2 weeks... ? 100? 1000? 5000?
timethief : thank you! I am sincere, you are perfectly right and finally someone's making sense. I will execute right away, lets find that blog a name....
Good on you and best wishes. :)
Well yes a name for the blog would be a great start. As would a link in your user profile. :)
Here's the url - http://flexindesign.wordpress.com/
No timethief, no!
Flex In Design (and flexindesign.wordpress.com) is my consultancy and its blog, it is blank and just a depository for my social networks links.
I told you earlier, my working blog is a private one for my clients and I (password protected).
What we talked about is another (new) blog where I could make my points about what I believe should change as far as WordPress itself is concerned and see if there is a following or not.
For now I registered those drafts:
atthe404: you will not find more open and transparent than myself!
My name is Stephane Beladaci and is posted all over the place we call the web, and my profile here at WP indeed has a link to my LinkedIn profile which is my only maintained public place for now (for now!)...
But here it is:
If I have an account somewhere (pretty much all social websites), it is always under the same username flexdesigner (or flexindesign if the first one is taken).
Simple, straight forward.
Well a lot of folk here in this forum do not want to futz with other folks fancy profiles on third party sites. They just like a link to a com blog. And OT: It fascinates me that high end tech gurus want WP com sites anyway. But that is just me.
"what century are you leaving in" I should ask you the same thing. Being a developer, you should call things by their proper name, even more if you're in the web development field.
I don't need to play smart, I just call things the way they should be. I am a programmer too. I develop in .Net (C#, VB), PHP; design and program MSSQL and MySQL databases. I program in ActionScript; write HTML, XML, CSS. I do graphic design work too. I too write desktop apps. I speak English, Spanish and a little Portuguese. So what? Do you think you're the only one who can be efficient and can multi task? Do you think you were criticized by a volunteer who was just trying to be a smart ass? If so, you've got another thing coming.
-- For reference I originally posted as Ston3r, that's another username I have.
There is a really funny mind set with - fortunately - a few noobies to com. One is that they think because it is a simple hosted service that somehow they need to compensate by parading their *credentials*. And two. For some reason a lot of these guys carry on as though no one else here has ever heard of Active X, JAVA, whatever.
sorry man, today I seem to be having some reading comprehension problems, so just to clarify, were you including me in your statement above?
F*** no :)
ok, ok... cheers!
As if I would :)
IMO this stuff really belongs in a blog.
I'm apologizing for posting the wrong url. And I'm thanking you for registering and posting the other urls'.
I do think my idea of moving this animated discussion to a blog was a good one. Good on you for following through and registering the blogs you note:
For now I registered those drafts:
There's room for dissent in any blogging community but the place to present your case is on a blog and not on a support forum. I'm sure that devblog and atthe404 would be eager to carry on the discussion on your blog(s) so I'm wishing you all well.
Happy blogging :)
Well once the guy gets fixed up a lot of the techie tendency might want to get into dialogue. But the forum is not the right place for it.
Would it be possible to add support for shockwave flash as well? For instance, I was sent code for a video player from Blockbuster but can't incorporate it into my website because its shockwave-flash.
Now, I'm not complaining. WordPress.com is a great blog community and I really haven't had any problems. I do want to migrate over to a full domain (as I've purchased it and will be buying a paid host to go along with it soon). I just don't want to lose anything when I move over to using WordPress.org (i experimented with the blank WordPress installation and it says the largest file I can import is 8MB, which is a problem since my export file is 12MB).
atthe404: "Well a lot of folk here in this forum do not want to futz with other folks fancy profiles on third party sites" --> you are right, as I said I am overdue with a blog and I agree using a resume as personal page does not make a lot of sense but it does the job while I get something better. --> In French I would answer "le cordonnier est toujours le plus mal chaussé" but I just found the translation "always goes on The shoemaker's barefoot". I guess I am fortunate enough to not need a blog or anything to be already overbooked. So, the "guru" who does not have a blog.... if I may, I find this a little low.
But once again, you-are-right, and I work on it. Maybe if did not have to spend hours finding tricks to make stuff work around here or there, I would be done by now....
devblog: ok so you know what you are talking about, now can you say you never, ever, not even once said "java" to make it short while you think obviously script? I did not say J2EE, I said "java" so I maintain, you play smart by playing with words. Useless.
russtc3: I am not qualified on the wordpress architecture so i leave the mic to tje staff. All I can say is bare Flash is not great, you need some sort of code to support things as low level as browser detection... A good architecture would abstract that and for example WP would do the job on their sandbox without having to give you physical access to it, but based on how much of a big deal it is to get that little last.fm poor thing working I have little hope... Great topic for the blog I will open up to cast your voices reagrding anything you may want to see changing here at wp .com. Stay tuned...
"There's room for dissent in any blogging community but the place to present your case is on a blog and not on a support forum. I'm sure that devblog and atthe404 would be eager to carry on the discussion on your blog(s) so I'm wishing you all well."
I wanted the name to be a common decision but it would just make us abusing even more of the forum's hospitality (seriously, I am surprised they did not cut me off already lol).
So I picked my favorite because it kinds of make a sentence:
By tomorrow morning I will have organized some directory structure. If any of you want to be a contributor (no matter how unfriendly we may have been to each other, that what free speech is about) you are welcome to email me [email redacted].
If you wanna call things wrongly, not only you'll confuse people but guess who's gonna look bad? For sure it won't be me.
Me, for one, you can think whatever you please, I just don't care.
Like TT said, the forum is not for discussing this, so this will be my last reply to you. You want to complain, vent, whatever you want to express, write it in your blog.
You wanna have the last word and look like you're right and I'm wrong, fine, it's yours.
I won't argue with you anymore, it's just beneath me.
devblog: I understand your position, but sincerely the reason for my tone is not to make me look good and others bad, I have nothing to sell and what people think of me as a person in the context of a public forums slip through over my head. The only motive I had is to create a reaction which obviously by now is pretty much successfull. I don't care how much of an as--le I may look, it is not about me. Now, do you thing we would be creating that new blog and working that little buz if I just poste a nice "please" and "thank you" post at fiurst? Look around, people did all over the place and their post will just die in place.
I know social psychology quiet well, you do not make masses or groups move without creating some sort of shock. We'll chat more about it at
Trolling the forums asking people to visit your site is considered risky behavior, ToS-wise, and deliberately provoking people to up your hits even moreso.
"Trolling the forums asking people to visit your site"
look back, what you are saying is not at all what happens. I do not have a site, I do not sell anything and I will get nothing at all out of the traffic... I was reproached not to have an address so I gave one. Now I am reproached to do so, we are chasing our tales my friends...
