Adding online store to a blog...

  1. Hi,

I am soon going to start a new project with WP.com, in which I need to have a means to sell items, I was wondering if there is a way to add a store to a site, or if there is a specific theme I should use.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is instantbight.com.

  2. I’m afraid e-commerce isn’t possible here at WordPress.com. If you require e-commerce/shopping cart functionality, blogger initated avdertising, affiliate links, there are no restrictions on e-commerce if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a free hosted WordPress.com blog.
See here to learn the differences:

  3. Oooo Ok.

How do I add a self hosted site. Does that take a long time?

  4. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate. You have to hire a web host, set up your own WordPress.org install, and install a theme and plugins. We cannot help you with this here at WordPress.com. All the documentation you need is found here.

  5. You can either purchase a guided transfer and have Staff make the move for you, or you can do it on your own. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

  6. Do you need to know how to code for a WordPress.org blog?

Do you use the same interface as WP.com?

  7. Do you need to know how to code for a WordPress.org blog?
    Yes and no.

Do you use the same interface as WP.com?
    No but it's similar.

If I'd like to switch/upgrade to a selfhosted blog will it be like a completely new blog? or will everything from my free blog transfer over at all?

  9. You have export and import your content after you hire a web host.
