Adjusting colour accuracy on computer screens

  1. I continue to be amazed how much different the "tone" or "feel" of a blog post might be affected by the colour/hue settings on a person's computer screen.

I've my blog across different screens in different machines. One thing for certain, I try not to set my photos too dark/gloomy! Nor my background colour choice too bright.

The blog I need help with is cyclewriteblog.wordpress.com.

  2. I recently upgraded my computer from an Acer to a Mac. Most of my older photographs became too contrasty. Looking back at my older blog posts, it made me shout "What was I thinking?"..."the colours are horrible". Let's just say a lot of re-editing was done afterwards.

But least now my printer actually prints the colours I'm seeing on my computer screen.

  3. It's not just a difference in operating systems (I believe colours are brighter on a 'Mac, though I don't have one so can't check) but in monitors too. It can be very difficult colour matching (and, as an artist, I know this only too well!) but what's worse is to match monitor colour to printer output.

  4. Apparently a display colour calibration kit works. I've always wanted one, but they're pretty expensive

  5. There are so many factors - operating system settings, monitor settings, quality of the monitor itself etc. Even ambient light in the room has an effect. The only practical way is to get a calibrator in my opinion.

I've found the newer Mac screens close enough out of the box, but then they should be as most come with a screen (and they are usually good ones). They are way too bright out of the box though.
