There's a 'no-ads' upgrade, or you can go to http://wordpress.org, but when you registered your blog, you signed the TOS and agreed to allow WordPress to place ads on your free blog.

I don't even remember anything at all about what I agreed to six months ago...so, the only way to get them taken off is to pay for the upgrade?

That's right. OR you could apply for the WordAds program, and if you're approved then only one ad appears on your blog instead of several. But there's a backlog of over a thousand applicants waiting.

Well, I think my big mistake was titling a post "single, isolated, lonely..." I have a wonderful ad under that photo. lol!
