jtothebI know the policy on general wordpress.com blogs is not to allow advertising or google adsense on wordpress branded pages, but what if a new wordpress site is mapped under a different domain name?

Purchasing a domain and domain mapping does not in any way shape or form change the advertising restrictions on wordpress.com blogs. The only exceptions to the advertising restriction are VIP hosted accounts.
So if your blog does not get 500,000 page views per month and you are not approved and prepared to pay $600. for set-up and $300. per month for hosting then you may as well forget about advertising at this point in time.
