Advice needed!

Hi all, I'm completely new to blogging and I need some advice, support, comments and criticism to get my blog going in a more solid direction and be as thriving as possible.
Any advice welcomed with open arms! Thank you.

    This little peggy blog.

The blog I need help with is thislittlepeggy.wordpress.com.

  2. Well, for starters the Ideas forum is specifically for suggestions about how to improve the WordPress.com software. If you want critiques of your blog etc your best bet is to join a forum for that. There is none here.

  3. Two ways of attracting like-minded subscribers are
    (1) commenting meaningfully and frequently on blogs with similar content and
    (2) being active on social networking sites.

On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn WordPress.com blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com/
The support documentation is all found at the Support link http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also on the bottom of your Admin page.

The Tags search page is in the Reader area of the Dashboard is at this link. http://wordpress.com/tags/

The WordPress.com search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/

For Topics (Tags page) searches see http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/ This is the syntax http://en/wordpress.com/tags/canada
    See here http://wordpress.com/#!/read/topics/

For Google searches use this format and replace "keyword" with whatever word or keyword phrase you wish:
    keyword site:wordpress.com/

    Example search string
    Queen Victoria site:wordpress.com
    results > http://tinyurl.com/csaobsx

    See these for Staff tips:

    http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/07/28/how-to-get-more-traffic/

If you want to increase traffic then don't listen to anyone who professes there are passive ways of doing that. Increasing traffic to a blog is hard work. If you want your blog to rank well in search engine results then that begins with creating and publishing original content ie. unique content that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet.

If you are using a WordPress.com theme good SEO is a given. However, going beyond the theme what the blogger has done within that structure is worth evaluating. Whether you write informative, persuasive or controversial content learning how search engines work, and how to apply basic SEO to you content will benefit your blog as it will increase traffic from targeted readers. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/10/21/two-seo-videos-for-bloggers/

Ah right, sorry! I had no idea. So is there no-where on the WordPress forums I could post this? (If not, do you know of any external forums where I may be able to get the advice needed?) Thank you :)

Oh wow. That's brilliant timethief. Thank you very much! Very helpful indeed :)

  6. There is a community pool thread every Sunday. Here's the latest one

  7. Note this please. When people ask for critiques of their blog they are asking either
    (1) for every tom, dick and mary, who has a new blog and knows diddly squat about blogging to comment, which amounts to the inexperienced leading the inexperienced
    (2) for those who make a living from consulting to work for them free of charge.

Suffice to say neither one is a good idea at all. If you need and want pro advice then pay someone like raincoaster for it.

Yeah I can see your point there. My blog isn't something I'm wanting to make money/profit off though. It is something I'm purely doing as a hobby and a way to improve my writing and build upon my confidence as a writer; so I'm not looking to build it up to a professional standard. (I also actually had no idea that one can pay someone to give them a professional critique of their blog. As stated - I'm completely new to it).

I just wanted advice and ideas to mainly expand the audience of my blog and give it more of a solid direction. Thank you very much for you advice and help though. I will certainly build-up my activity on social networking sites and I will begin my search to find blogs with similar content to interact with.

  9. Hi again,
