I have a doubt....Well my blog has some links to pay to click sites, but the purpose is to let the people know which ones pay and which ones dont pay.
And I was wondering if you consider this against the rules or no??

  2. Yes. If your blog gets reported, it will be suspended. ALL pay for click stuff is against the rules here.

If I understand all of this - and I hope I do - I can mention on my real wordpress.com blog that I'm opening at etsy store to sell items made by me that's OK. Correct? Or if I mention a retail store or website NOT owned by me but selling items relevant to my blog's theme, that's OK too. Right?

Driving traffic to 3rd party sites that sell other people's creations? Would you please pose your question directly to Staff? http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

  5. I started my wordpress blog a few days ago, and added it as an App to my new Ning network I am building. Under these circumstances, can I add a few affiliate links to my blog?

  6. I have several links under "go green" link category that are directed to TOS about affiliate links. I don't own the links... I am not an affiliate to these places... so why are they not allowed?

  7. Because Staff think that they ARE affiliate links. You will have to talk to them when they're back on the 16th.

  8. And Unleashheart: No. The links are on the WP.com blog, even if you are also displaying them on your Ning site. WP doesn't care what you do with Ning, but a WordPress.com site is not a place for affiliate links.

  9. okie dokie, just wondering. thanks!

  10. raincoaster...help! I applied to google ad sense for my ning site, and I am pretty sure it is now showing up on my wordpress instead! take a look at the bottom of this article. http://unleashheart.wordpress.com/2010/08/13/analog-vs-digital/
I tried to log in to my adsense account but it says "application pending". I don't see how it could be pending if it is showing up on my page. Anyways, i just wanted to find out where I need to go in wordpress to delete the ad. I don't want my account to be suspended!! You can link from my ning to wordpress, so maybe that is how the glitch happened? I am so confused.

  11. Take a deep breath and don't worry. Your Adsense didn't get posted on your WordPress.com blog: that is an ad from Adsense that WordPress.com itself applied to your blog.

They run adsense on our blogs which shows primarily to people coming from searches, and to not-signed-in-to-WP.com people. Your regulars won't see the ads, you normally won't, and people who are signed in to WP.com won't see them. WordPress.com is one of Adsense's biggest customers.

If you don't want the ads, you can buy the Ad Free upgrade, and if you DO want ads and have 1000 hits a day or so, you can apply for a new program which allows you to control ads on your site.

  12. Pheww. Thanks.

  13. OK I skimmed through this whole thing, and am still confused! Here is the excerpt on advertising:

"In addition to AdSense-type ads, please do not use the following services on your blog: sponsored / paid posts including PayPerPost, ReviewMe, and Smorty; affiliate / referral links to the following domains: usercash, clickbank, clickhop, cashrocks, payingcash; clicktrackers (and any similar) and any promotion of the “I made a million on the internet and so can you” type of advertising (i.e. MLM, network marketing, cash gifting, etc.). Paid or sponsored post content is also prohibited. Please check our page on types of blogs for more information about what content is and isn’t welcome on WordPress.com."

Affiliate links to clickbank, cashrocks, etc are not permitted. I get that. But if I am writing a blog post about a baby shower party theme and put links to amazon products that would work along with my theme, are those allowed to be affiliate links? It doesn't mention amazon in the list of things not allowed.

  14. okay. i feel like a real idiot but my question is: can i blog about antiques and have a link to my etsy shop where i sell antiques?

  15. @blackrooster, you need to run that by staff. In general, what they have said is that if you are selling stuff that you yourself made (jewelry, pottery, paintings, etc.) then there was no problem.

Contact staff and talk with them and see what they say.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

  16. I was wondering if you could check on the website Mod Cloth. Do they fall within the realm of pay for click OR do you consider them a legit company that I can put up a link/banner for.

  17. Please contact staff directly http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

  18. Also, remember that you're not allowed to put up link/banners even for LEGIT companies if you get paid for it.

  19. I think the thing that upsets me here is that I love helping people not be fat anymore (like I was) and I found a company to work thru to help people with that problem, and then my links got shut down.
    I just wanna help people!
Is this something that's violating my freedom of speech?

  20. No violation of freedom of speech at all - you can say what ever you want -

WordPress.COM provides a blog platform and they have set certain Terms of Service which you agreed to, even if you did not bother to read them - and some of the TOS terms have to do with you can't have, pay per click, affiliate links, etc. If you dont' like the TOS you would be more that welcome to go somewhere else or host your own site.

  21. @davidrydelnik

No one is stopping you from helping people. No one is stopping you from talking about the company that you find helpful. But if you want to get paid for doing so, wordpress.com is not the venue.

  22. Wow. Am very glad I read all of this. I have joined a site where you set up a blog just for the purpose of being able to advertise and use your affliate links. They say at that site they can hook up (for lack of a better word) my blog post from that site to my blog here at WP. If my blog is basically just full of information on companies that I am promoting (which is against the rules here) how can they forward my post to my WP blog? If I did that would my blog here get banned? I would also like to know, does anyone ever check to make sure that spelling is correct and that their sentences are worded properly before submitting? It drives me crazy. I am definitely doing my homework on proofreading sites and am thinking about offering my services. Thank you

  23. They can't. Autoforwarding to a WP.com blog is both impossible AND against the rules. It's a spammer's trick. Do not get yourself involved with these people: they are neither ethical nor competent, if they're telling you that this is possible. It's not.

  24. Please read this so you comprehend the differences between having a free blog from and being free hosted by WordPress.COM and a free software install fro self hosting from WordPress. ORG http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Types of blogs allowed and not allowed at wordpress.COM > http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/ Scroll down to >

Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category.

  25. I am new and my goal is to load music that myself and 2 others play for weddings, dinner parties, and other events. The intention is to be hired to play at these events. Can I upload our music onto a WP blog and have the content be about what we are doing? If so, how would I upload from a CD that we put together? Thank you for your time.

  26. @festivalstrings: For the record, I answered your question here :-)
