Akismet – Unable to see caught spam messages

    Akismet is capturing spam, but everytime I check the queue it says there’s nothing there.

    I have a horrible suspicion that it is catching valid user comments and obliterating them before I get the chance to see or moderate them.

    Is there any way to disable Akismet? Unfortunately, I am using the free account, so my options may be limited. Alternatively, is there another solution?

    Can you clarify something please: how do you know that Akismet is capturing messages? (I’m not saying it isn’t, but we need to know where you’re seeing that).

    I am having that problem too!

    I look at my dashboard and it says “Akismet has protected your site from 114 spam comments.” But if I click on it there is no spam to moderate. The total of spam being caught seems to be rising quickly too. Just last week it was was in the 80’s so I am wondering what’s going on as well.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I’m interested in seeing an answer from staff on this as well. On one of my .com blogs I’ve saw this behavior for months until I moved that one to self-hosted. Interestingly my test blog here at .com (on the same account) does not exhibit this behavior as I’ve used it repeatedly to help those caught in Akismet limbo get out of it.

    The spam message counter keeps climbing. In the “Blog Stats” page, there is a message at the bottom stating “Akismet has protected your site from X spam comments.”

    The X (at the moment, at 61) has been steadily climbing, yet not a single spam message has been kept. Admittedly, it’s not a lot, and I never really paid it much attention up until now. But they’ve climbed quite rapidly in the past week or so, hence my concern.

    I hope this helps to clarify my problem. Thanks for your input, and I look forward to your response and assistance.

    Thanks. We’ve had that problem in the past, and the issue was that the counter was reading high, not that the Akismet page was failing to show messages. We’ll look into it and see what’s going on this time.

    Okay, saw a spam message come through, so I thought things were back on track. However, one or two more have been filtered, and I’m still not seeing anything happening in the queue.

    What’s the status, tellyworth?

    I am also having the same problem. Earlier I was able to see my spam messages but all of a sudden all of them disappeared and now I can’t see any. And, yes, it caught valid user comments also which I used to restore when the messages were accessible.

    I’ve noticed the same, my spam-counter is also counting spam that just doesn’t appear in the Akismet-moderation queu. Hope there’s an easy solution to it. ;)

    Same problem here, too. My spam counter goes up (numbers rising in a realistic way), but I haven’t had any spam at all on the Akismet page for weeks. I did however get two messages for comments which I had to approve (first-time commenters). I’d be glad to hear what’s the reason for that – am I actually losing some of the few precious real comments I get so far?

    I’m having the same problem too. I’ve never seen much of the spam Akismet claims to have caught, and it seems to be getting worse; I’ve only seen 2 out of the last 30 supposed spam. The counter went up by 15 last night, but I only had one new message in the queue (and I didn’t have that many hits anyway). I’m not really expecting many comments, but I do worry that legitimate comments might be vanishing.

    I’m having this same problem

    I’m new to blogging and i’ve only just setup my account here at .wordpress.com, so i dont get that much traffic therefore not many comments, and now i see that Akismet is blocking my comments and i cant view them?

    So yeah. . . waiting for a response :)

    Same issue here. I used to be able to look at the Spam and now there is never any to review, but the spam counter goes up regularly.

    I also have this problem. My Akismet only shows me some of the captured spam.

    1) that this problem has been going on since august 07 is killer. 2) if we use wordpress.com instead of hosting our blog on our own server, are we supposed to go to akismet or wordpress for technical help on this item?
