Alignment, header, preview

    Hi there,

    My last question on my previous thread hasn't been answered yet so I thought I'd start a new one..

    My site http://tpiytesting.wordpress.com is coming along nicely, however there are a few things I still need help with..

    - The alignment for the posts is a bit off. I may have played with code to make it this way but I'm not sure how to take it back to normal. I like having the "previous/next" buttons where they are, however is there a way of bringing the dateline back in alignment with the title on the posts? So making this post http://tpiytesting.wordpress.com/2013/04/07/reasons-why-we-get-tired/ more like this page http://tpiytesting.wordpress.com/about/.

    - With the header, can you please tell me how to put a link on the image (back to the home page)?

    - And finally, with the post previews on the homepage, is there a way of listing the number of comments (instead of add a comment), and also adding the post's tags to that preview?

    Thanks so much for all your help guys!
    Seraphina

    The blog I need help with is tpiytesting.wordpress.com.

  2. Hello,
    The blog is private and Volunteers cannot view it. Unless you chnage the setting to public then Volunteer assistance is not available. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
    If you don't change the setting in this "test blog" to public that means every thread has to be tagged with modlook in the sidebar for Staff assistance.

    Thanks @timethief for reminding me! The blog is now public. Someone replied to my other thread about post alignment, so all I need is help with those other 2 for now :)

    Thank you!

  4. This thread will be moved to the CSS Forum where you can get the help you need.

  5. - The alignment for the posts is a bit off. I may have played with code to make it this way but I'm not sure how to take it back to normal.

    Looks like comments are still offset though. Try adding this:

    #comments {
    	padding: 0;
    	margin: 0 auto;
    }
  6. - With the header, can you please tell me how to put a link on the image (back to the home page)?

    You can't add HTML (so that means links) with CSS only, but what you can usually do is repurpose a link from somewhere else.

    How have you hidden the site title? The site title is usually a link back to the home page and you can re-shape it to lay it over the top of the header image and hide the text off-left. Can you add back the site title so it's easier to see what we're working with?

  7. - And finally, with the post previews on the homepage, is there a way of listing the number of comments (instead of add a comment), and also adding the post's tags to that preview?

    You can't use CSS to change underlying functionality, so if the theme doesn't offer up the comment count, then there isn't a way to add it.

    Thanks so much for your responses @designsimply!

    The comments alignment is looking great, thanks for that.

    I have added the text into the header - as you can see it doesn't really work with the design, but it does link. Please let me know if there is a way to hide it behind the image (and make it take up the image perhaps!).

    And finally, the theme actually does include tags and number of comments on the homepage in its demo - I am not sure why they aren't showing up in mine? Have a look: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/imbalance2/#.

    Thank you!

  9. Please let me know if there is a way to hide it behind the image (and make it take up the image perhaps!).

    There's a trick to it that's a common CSS hack. You move the text off-left and change the width and height of the link area to cover the whole image. Here is an example:

    #site-title a {
    	display: block;
    	width: 960px;
    	height: 300px;
    	text-alignment: left;
    	text-indent: -9999px;
    }

    If you want to visualize where the link is before and/or after, try just previewing with a border so you can see it:

    #site-title a {
    	border: 1px solid red;
    }
  10. And finally, the theme actually does include tags and number of comments on the homepage in its demo - I am not sure why they aren't showing up in mine? Have a look: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/imbalance2/

    Thanks for including a link! There are no comment numbers because none of your posts have any comments yet. Once someone has added a comment, a number will show up below the post like the demo shows.

    Brilliant, thanks @designsimply!

    Any insight about getting the tags on there?

    Thank you so much for all your help,
    Seraphina

  12. And finally, with the post previews on the homepage, is there a way of listing the number of comments (instead of add a comment), and also adding the post's tags to that preview?

    You can't add new dynamic content using CSS, so if the tags aren't included by the theme, you won't be able to add them.

    The tags are on the theme, which I included the link to earlier.

    But for some reason they are not showing up on my site...

  14. Ah, I see now. I believe you're looking at categories, not tags. Here is an example, is this what you're thinking of? http://cl.ly/OLj7

    Oh, I see.. I thought they were tags!

    No worries then, thanks again for all your help, I really appreciate it!

    Warmly,
    Seema

  16. Cool. Sorry I missed seeing those categories before, I looked right past that question and focused on the comments part of the question at first.
