wiidudei've been thinking... they should add more picture files, like .tif and .bmp. those are popular formats, but WordPress's security guidelines are a little strict. they should improve the uploading.

Convert the tif or bmp files to jpg in a simple program like IrfanView and you can upload all you want. Nothing to it.

tiff's and bmp's are not allowed since they are both non-compressed image types and can be huge. That means the loading times for those images would be incredibly long compared to jpg's.
Use jpg for photos
Use gif or png for graphic images (such as created with a paint program) -
