Someone else to pick on and push around.....*blushing*
Trent
-
w00T!
This means some other bloggers will now have more time to blog in. :D
And how long have you been hiding this light under a bushel basket... hmmm?
When did this event take place and why didn't staff announce it so we could congratulate you? -
Sweet dude, congrads... :)
-
Congrats! Where's the cake now?
-
I really think this should have been done by staff, TT.
-
@drmike
I'm not sure where you're coming from ... ummm ... you did know didn't you?
How could posting a congrats be a wrong thing to do?
And why are you publicly rebuking me for being happy and sharing good news?
Does this mean I have to stop posting Valentines, Birthday greetings, Happy Holidays and other congratulatory posts too? :( -
Oooh, okay, now we have a problem - I was under the impression that TT was staff, couldn't staff have their posts in a darker colour? Something to easily identify, or something better to identify I should say.
-
The only folks who are staff are the ones with "Key Master" after their names. In some browsers, their posts show up with a slightly yellow background.
Trent and I are volenteers.
I've know for a couple of days as Barry dropped me an email on teh subject a couple of days ago.
-
@samaueye
Staff have "Key Master" after their usernames. Moderators have "Moderator" after their usernames. Bloggers have "Member" after their usernames. Moderators and Members voluntarily answer questions on the forums; they are not paid, only staff are.Neither Moderators not Members have back-end access to blogs, only staff do. All technical fixes are therefore made by staff who are notified by means of feedbacks or emails to support at this domain.
Support is not open on weekends and feedback buttons do not work. Staff have the forums on feeds and respond only to urgent matters that require technical "fixes".
-
Okay, just saying because there was a bit of a mixup, when TT mentioned putting me on modblock or whatever it was - some changes need to be made is all I'm suggesting. But I'm neither here nor there - it's for staff to deal with, actual staff that is. And TT, [ANNOUNCEMENT] sort of throws people off who are none the wiser to how forums work, okay, so don't give mike trouble.
-
I don't get what the problem is.
The decision was made at least 2 or more days ago where was the Staff announcement?.
Both trent and drmike have the ability to delete the single offending ANNOUNCEMENT word.
They can both edit any forum post and drmike does so quite regularly.
Staff also all have the ability to delete the single offending ANNOUNCEMENT word too.
I was happy. :)
Now I'm not. :(
I have been publicly rebuked for saying congratulations and that SUCKS! -
Gosh darn if we don't find a fascinating thread in the forum search box. Out of the blue last February drmike found that he had been given Moderator status, via the mysterious appearance of an "admin" link and without any prior announcement from wordpress staff. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=428&replies=11#post-1991
-
I believe I deserve a public apology for the following reasons:
(1) staff failed to act by making an announcement and that lameness was beyond my control;
(2) moderators and staff failed to use the ability they all had to remove the offending "ANNOUNCEMENT word from my post and that lameness was not mine;
(3) I was publicly rebuked for being happy and congratulating trent and that was a low blow. -
I will applogize to you timethief. I haven't been following this thread and I think all drmike was thinking (before the flurry of posts) was that maybe the staff would want to make a post first. I can't speak for him, but I think that is all he really meant! As for the annoucement part, people must have thought that it was STAFF annoucement because of the formatting!
We better chalk this up to laughs because it really isn't important enough to argue over! Thanks for the kind words everything and let us put this behind us! Sorry TT.

@trent
You owe me no apology. You did not publicly rebuke me for the lameness of others. You have nothing to feel sorry about.I have accepted every public correction drmike has made to the advice I gave here to fellow bloggers on the forum. drmike owes me a public apology.
And I certainly will not accept your apology to me for the lameness of others.
-
Congrats Trent! And don't mind me when I generally go off topic on threads or talk about my stories about porn or some of the loons that visit my blog. :)
-
Since no one takes me seriously and I generally stay away from making online friends, which has blown up in my face, I'll take it upon myself to say what most here might want to say right now.
TT, I think it would be less stressful for you if you didn't take this forum so seriously. I come here for fun and try to help with easy help questions. But most of the arguments that I've seen in my year here have all surrounded you. I know you mean well and want to help but you come off as knowing it all and you have insulted many people here whether you realized it or not. drmike doesn't owe you anything. So don't expect a public apology from him. He has told you in the past to stop being a moderator because you're not and it's his job, not yours. But you continue telling people what to do and you even tell staff, like Mark, what to do by saying a thread should be closed or moved somewhere else and so many other examples. You were complaining after it was announced that an off-topic board would be created by saying that it shouldn't be a place for someone pimping their blogs. Most will never end up on the top lists and pimping their blogs might be their chance of getting exposure and constructive criticism. You accuse people of doing things but you yourself have done what you accuse people of doing. I don't mean any harm by this but I just see more and even worse arguments happening if this continues.
-
nosysnoop, well put.
-
This is no reason to have this fight on the front page anymore.
-
Thank you, Trent, for the thread. No, I'm not ignoring your email, it;s just sitting there with about a hundred more.
A perfect example.
Timethief, you are not a moderator. You lead with the number of moderated/ deleted posts around here and, before you ask, I had a staff member point that fact out to me.
And, no, I will not apoligize. I've been very polite over the matter since day one but I've got to admit that right now, it's frustrating me.
And it seems you really need css customization help, although you posted to the support forum.
Really? Timethief, who frigging cares? Did you know I change at least a dozen of those every day? Most folks post to the CSS subforum because that's why the system defaults to. When I see it, I just go ahead and fix it. And it's moot to point that out to folks because they couldn't change it even if they understood what you were talking about.
I'm glad to hear that accusing attacking me wasn't the case so I don't have to put up a modlook tag.
And what the hell is this? You do know that that is a threat, right? Now we're threating folks in the support forums?
Folks, we're here to help people, not tell them off or try to change their minds when it comes to policy issues or shove the search bar in their face. Heck, if you really want to do that, go over to the WPMu forums. Heck, I'd even thank you for that. I promised Donncha months ago that I would work on the wiki for WPMu and I haven't touched it in eons. And don't get me started about the last time I was able to do some writing or post some captions.
TT and everybody else, I'm very happy for the work you do here and for what you do. Please don't get me wrong. But there are some days when I'm pulling my hair out over what's going on around here. I've got to admit that a couple times, I've gone into the admin side looking for the option to drop myself back down to a regular member. Right now, life is not that good for me between dealing with the SEC, the issues with my ex, the insurance company, and a number of other things that I won't go into here. I'm also working with a couple of churches on their Room in the Inn program for homeless everynight (The idiot who runs the program published my name and phone number on their emergency contact list even with what happened last year with my ex who was in the program. And you know me, I can't say no when someone asks for help.) and I'm not getting much sleep but it's pretty important to me. I've been home once within the last week and I'm averaging about 6 hours of sleep a night. I've got other issues that are more important right now than what we've got going on here.
Thank you for listening,
-drmike -
One final thing that's bothering me. Would you please stop telling folks "Your welcome" in the threads where I was the one who helped them and they replied back that the issue was resolved.
It's kind of like this to me.
-
Well, here's another:
Why there are two widgets for what seems to be the same purpose I do not know.
Then why are you answering? All you've done is cause more confusion for the poster.
Folks, I'm taking the day off. I'll probably even be back on Tuesday because I think I'm helping someone move Monday.
-
@drmike
I never let the sun go down on my wrath but it sure sounds like you do. It also sounds like you need to take some time off, and you might like to consider saying "no" instead of over-extending yourself and losing sleep over volunteer projects.You have used my personal name in the same thread here where you told us all your personal business, including that fact that you're upset because someone else gave out your personal information. I'm surprised a Moderator would do that.
Having tested the two widgets for Links in the Freshy theme in my test blog I could agree with the original poster that the one labeled "Links for Freshy" does not work. This has been reported to staff by Trent now.
As for this one: And it seems you really need css customization help, although you posted to the support forum.
I wanted to confirm where the thread was and if it was a css problem before I told sunburntkamel that the blogger needed css help.
-
You just don't get it, do you?
-
I get it that you are bent out of shape.
I'm sorry you are angry.
I 'm sorry you have unresolved personal issues that you choose to share with us.
I'm sorry that you choose to over-extend yourself rather than getting the sleep you need.
I'm sorry I have been less than perfect and have made mistakes when trying to help people.Edited several times to provide clarity.
-
I think you are grand, drmike, and I appreciate your selfless hard work and perhaps you'll find solace in a recent article of mine:
http://urbansemiotic.com/2007/02/12/how-to-provide-online-tech-support/
It isn't directed at any particular forum -- but I think you do all the things right and that's a hard thing to do considering your current condition.
Keep the faith!
-
@boles
I read the article. It was really good.Forget the FAQs and Don’t Use Discussion Threads surprised me.
-
I really like that article! Often taking things for granted is usually a way to cause confusion! Bookmarked! Great work boles!

I would like to congratulate Trent and thank him for his very long record of support in the com forum.
