I tried to copy the javascript from my Ezine Articles site under AUTHOR TOOLS, scroll down to VIEW MY ARTICLE FEEDS and then paste it to my TEXT/HTML widget, and it doesn't seem to work. Any thoughts?

Yes. All javascript is stripped by wordpress.com software to preserve security on this wpMU wordpress multiuser blogging platform. Other codes that present security threats are also stripped. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=code

Also note that if you are attempting to embed affiliate codes they are a no go with very few exceptions that must receive prior Staff approval.
