Anyway to Change Main Column Width and edit Title?

  1. I switched to the SINGL theme for it's simplicity, I am hoping there might be a way to change the main column width from 640 px to more like 900.

    The tile and tag line are bordered by two white lines, is there anyway to code those out?

    I really appreciate any help anyone could offer, thanks!

    The blog I need help with is makeragoodlifeisearned.wordpress.com.

  2. Yes. It will require a custom design upgrade and CSS editing.
    See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable custom and CSS editing:

  3. P.S. The blog linked to your username is a free hosted WordPress.COM blog wearing the Twenty Thirteen theme. You need to post the link to the free hosted WordPress.COM blog wearing the Singl theme that you purchased the CSS upgrade for to get CSS editing help here.

  4. That second part didn't make any sense to me. I did purchase the custom theme upgrade and am looking specifically for a CSS fix. I've played around with several code variations but I can only get the center column to move, not to widen. I fully realize it may not be possible.

  5. Oh and whoops the blog link is as follows: http://zahorskyart.wordpress.com/

  6. I am hoping there might be a way to change the main column width from 640 px to more like 900.

    Totally :) try this:

    .page-header,
    .page-content,
    .hentry,
    #comments {
    	width: 980px;
    }

    That will make the content areas 900px. The Extra 80px is for the 40px padding on each side.

    Looks like you've already got it covered, but you'll also want to update the Content Width setting in Appearance > Customize > CSS to 900 after making this change because that will make media like videos and full sized images insert correctly at the new size.

  7. The tile and tag line are bordered by two white lines, is there anyway to code those out?

    You could take it out with this:

    .site-branding {
    	border: none;
    }

    But I like the lines! :) Consider keeping them. I think it gives the the site title a bit of a logo feel in your case, especially against the background you've got. It looks really great!!

  8. Thank you so much! You're a life saver . I totally agree on the lines. Do know of anyway to link the site title to an external site?

  9. CSS can't add links, but one possible workaround is to hijack a link from another place on the page and use absolute positioning to repurpose it. It's a little tricky, so it's best to look at a live example.

    If you need further help on this separate question, please start a new help request and make sure to include a link to the blog you're working on.

  10. Roger that, I will. Thank you again!

  11. Cheers :)
