Are my lost images somewhere on my xml export file?

my blog images didn't import from my wp.org to my wp.com site.
When importing I didn't have a chance to import attachments like it showed on the tutorial and now my images do not display on my wp.com site. All post contents are there, just not the images.
Now my hosted wp.org site is down due to web hosting expiry and I'm trying to retrieve my images. Are they somewhere in my xml file?

The blog I need help with is vibrantinteriors.wordpress.com.

  2. The images are attachment files and you are prompted when importing when asked if you want to include them.

    Hi Timethief,
I did not see any prompt whatsoever to include my attachments.
Just to be sure, I tried it again, and no prompting or any way to include the attachments.
I will patiently await for the Staff assistance.
    Thank You!

  5. Hi there,

If you have exported your .xml file from another WordPress site, then you are right, it will not contain your media (images, video, etc). Instead it will only contain instructions for our servers on where to go to fetch those images from your previous site. Exports for both WordPress.com and WordPress.org do not contain the actual images, but just the posts, pages, comments, etc to keep file sizes small. The media is fetched during the importing process.

If your previous site is now gone and all of your media along with it, then there are a couple of things which you might want to consider:

    1) You can reach out to your previous hosts and see if you can get a copy of your old site so you can get your media and upload it.

    2) You can use Google's cache function to grab images and upload them (do a google search for your site and when you get a hit, instead of clicking the link, select the "View Cached Version of this Site" option).

  6. Ahoy there "Happiness Engineer"!

Thank you for your simple explanation of something that had been driving me bonkers!
I contacted my old hosting company and was able to do just a one month renewal with them, and luckily my site was still there.
I was able to just download all the images onto my hard drive, and now, sadly, I have to go through each post and replace each lost image manually. Oh well! Better than losing them all.

  7. I'm so sorry to hear that you now have to go through that laborious process, but as you say, at least you've got copies of them.

Absolute best of luck to you and let me know if you have any other questions!
