Are there any options for an online store?

  1. I read that I am able to sell my own products but not products produced by others through wordpress. Is this still accurate? If so I have 2 questions:

    1. How do I go about adding a store for my own products?
    2. Are there any good alternatives for adding an online store and linking it to my blog? Or is this against policy too? Meaning, and I no nothing about ecommerce yet, can i have a separate store hosted elsewhere and just link to it from my blog? If so, any suggestions on what to use? Does Amazon have this option for businesses?

    Thank you!!

The blog I need help with is spinestrong.wordpress.com.

  2. There are lots of plugins (free and paid) that you can use to create an online store, but you will have to move your site over to the self-hosted platform on WordPress.org

  3. Is this something I can do on my own? I'm asking this as someone that knows wordpress on just the most basic level. I've been looking at some premium themes that may work better for my website too. I'm assuming that I need to switch to wp.org for that as well?

No I’m afraid e-commerce isn’t possible here at WordPress.com, and there are no plans to develop anything for that at this time.

If you require e-commerce/shopping cart functionality, there are no restrictions on e-commerce if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a free hosted WordPress.com blog.
See here to learn the differences:

  5. I'm a novice wordpress user and wordpress.org sounds much too complicated. I didn't even know what a plugin was until today lol. I wish I had the time to learn more about this, but unless there are very user friendly tutorials aimed at the novice, I just can't put the time into it.

  6. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install individual plugins into them. They are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

Here's a link to the learn WordPress.com tutorial which is linked to at the bottom of your Admin pages in your blog.

  7. Here's what you can do:

You can make an Etsy store or equivalent, and there are ways to get your Etsy code in the posts and an Etsy widget here. In other words, use free ecommerce hosting elsewhere and use your blog to showcase your products, but send people to your estore to buy.

    OR

Use the Paypal Donate button and tell people to fill in which item they want and the price. Then, once you've received the money, ship the product. Don't forget shipping charges.
