August 8th WordPress.com Outage

  1. PLEASE HELP! All widgets on my sidebar are gone. It has been replaced with a "tags" widget. ALso, my theme looks suspiciously different from the one I had last time I checked. Not sure if this is related to the outage, but everything is messed up. I hope my site can be restored soon, the address is: http://www.valuehuntr.com

  2. All my widgets and links are gone. Is it to do with the outage? Will everything go back to normal or do I need to load them again? Thanks

  3. ok, it's not so bad. Lost widgets should be under "inactive widgets" under the "Widgets" menu selection. It's just that the transition was made without letting bloggers know.

As of right now, the nav bar won't let me edit my posts and pages. I have to go in the dashboard to find the post and page to edit it there. Before we could edit right from the main page when the post or page is in permalink.

I'm having the same problems as here -- widgets gone gone gone. Temporary?

Forget about my problem. It's been solved.

About missing widgets, check at the bottom area where all widgets in your dashboard are. They usually drop down to there when anything weird happens.

  7. ghalf, edit the page with the comment box (Admin -> Pages -> edit the page with the comment box). Under the "Discussion" box, uncheck "allow comments".

  10. somegirlwithathought, I was able to make a test change to one of your posts.

I agree that the strikethrough doesn't work. That one's new to me. For now, you can get around this by switching to the "HTML" view when editing a post and typing:

    <del>text you want to strikethrough</del>

    Annoying, I know.

  11. prettierinpink I believe stats are fully functional. During the outage, no stats were collected (since no one could visit your site).

  13. kdaweb, it looks like your domain's nameservers are not set up correctly. Did you change them recently?

You can edit your domain's nameservers at your registrar's website. The nameservers need to point to the servers specified in step 1 here:

Not sure what's going on here, we'll look into it. If you go to your blog's Admin -> Appearance -> Widgets and scroll down to the bottom of the page, you should be able to find your missing widgets. Drag them back up to the sidebar.
