Is there any way to make the URL for the Author link on my posts to not point to the obnoxiously long akismet ID and instead point to my profile username?
If you click the link in my blog (eriksbates.wordpress.com), you get taken to eriksbates.wordpress.com/author/akismet-s9dfkj209yaddayadda.
Is it possible to make it point to eriksbates.wordpress.com/author/eriksbates ?

That's a bit odd. Is it possible you had an Akismet account before signing up for WordPress.com? Regardless, this is one for Support directly http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
