AutoFocus front page question + featured image conversion

  1. Hi there. I've just "discovered" one of the new themes - AutoFocus. I'm loving the look! Before I take the plunge, I would like to ask:

    1) Is there a way to influence how the front page crops each image for the montage? From my observation it seems to be taking a crop from the top left corner, most of my thumbnails turn out wonky.

    2) I'm currently using the duotone theme, where there is no "featured image" setting. Is there an easy way for me to migrate to a theme where this feature exists, without having to convert my single images into a featured image post by post?

    Thanks in advance!

The blog I need help with is lightslant.wordpress.com.

    1) Yes, top left corner; no, as far as I know you can't change that.

    2) No, featured images have to be set manually to each post. But you don't have to do that for all your previous posts. Main page and archive pages don't rely on featured images: each post on the main page and on category/archive pages will display a regularly inserted image (provided the image had been uploaded via the Add Media button of that post). The only difference is when you view a single complete post: regular image shows below the post title, max width 590px, featured image shows above the post title, max width 800px.

  3. hey thanks! reason I asked for (2) is because of the max width.
