background -change to image??

  1. Hi, I have no idea what I'm doing! I'm hoping to upload a jpeg and use it as a background (currently grey). Can anyone tell me exactly how to do this please?

    (I dont understand css at all yet, only managed to change the background from blue to grey by accidentally deleting the colour code!)

  2. ok, a couple things:
    1- there's already a background image, http://s.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/pub/unsleepable/images/top-bg.gif
    which makes the header seem to extend across the page
    2- upload your image, and copy it's location. now you can add it to your page like this:
    background: url('http://xxx.wordpress.com/YOURIMAGE.JPG');

  3. Ok, I tried it but it didn't work.

    Where exactly do i put it on the stylesheet????

    I just added it at the bottom of the css that's already there on the edit css page. Wrong obviously! Excuse my ignorance.

    THANKYOU!!!

  4. hrm... all i see in your CSS is:
    body {<br /> font-size:62.5%;<br /> font-family:'Lucida Grande', Verdana, Arial, Sans-Serif;<br /> }

    you should be able to add your background image code to that. it worked for me when i tried it.

  5. that's weird there was a whole page off code last time i looked but now its like you say...

    tried to add it to that but still doesnt work! Tried 2 different images. typed it exactly how you said to.

    I don't understand what I'm doing wrong!

  6. Try adding it under BODY {} section of the CSS.

  7. where's the image you're trying to use?

  8. http://emptypurse.wordpress.com/files/2007/01/grey.gif

    this is the one i'm practicing with, it's still not happening!

  9. body {<br /> background: url('http://emptypurse.wordpress.com/files/2007/01/grey.gif');<br /> font-size:62.5%;<br /> font-family:'Lucida Grande', Verdana, Arial, Sans-Serif;<br /> }
    looks good on my end

    if you put that in (and refresh the page) and it doesn't work, please send in feedback

  10. THANKYOU! finally working - the semi-colon thing between background and url wasn't in your first example - I think that might have been the problem. Thankyou so much for your help :)

  11. me again :(

    everything was fine but my layout/theme has completely gone!!!! it was fine until about 15 minutes ago, I didnt touch anything though. I've taken the background off so it's readable for now, will put it back when I find out where my theme has gone!

    any ideas?
