Best theme for images (lots of photographs)?

  1. Can anyone give me an idea of what the best theme would be to use for images, as in LOTS of photographs? For now, I can only use a Free theme, but will be able to convert to a Premium theme shortly.

If I can give suggestions for both––Free and Premium––that would be most helpful. (Scrolling is what I really need...images to scroll like a slideshow.) I will be displaying hundreds of designer outfits that I've put together for clients to view.

This is for a NEW WP blog I'm building. I'm using a Premium theme for my other WP blog which I like but will need something different for the fashion design blog.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is styledin.wordpress.com.

  2. My advice is to just experiment. I went through every single WordPress theme until I found the right one. It takes a lot of time, but it's worth it. When it comes to posting photographs, it really depends on the size of the images. Thus the size of the images will reflect on what theme you choose.

  3. Makes sense, thanks! For now, I'm just going to treat every blog entry as an image until I can get a Premium theme. But it would still be nice to know what theme is best for large photos that one can view as a looooong slider and/or easily scroll to view a lot of images quickly.

  4. Well there's always the theme that i'm using: Under the Influence. You can also adjust the width of the page, which is perfect for large photographs.

  5. Hey, yeah I just tried that theme and it looks promising ... like the fact that it goes wide though I like the graphic look & colors of Digital Nation better. Just have to experiment and see what works the best for my needs. Thanks so much!

  6. See this post by Panos which lists the maximum image width for the posting area on all themes here at wordpress.com.

  7. A suggestion ahead of time if you are going to be posting a lot of large images, is to go to settings > reading and set your site so that it displays perhaps 3 posts per page. This will make your site load fast for visitors and will also keep the search engines happy. They now take page loading times into account when calculating search engine ranking and you certainly do not want to have them toss your site into the basement because it loads to slowly due to tons of images.

  8. SUPER HELPFUL (pardon my "yelling")!! Thanks so much, SP. You're a Godsend as that is a super important piece of information to know. Also helpful to know is the ability to view the themes by maximum size capability as it would be a real time drain to have to experiment to find that out.

Word Press forum is THE best forum...thanks guys. :)

  9. You are welcome.
