Best way to attract traffic?

  1. Hey guys, just need simple tips on the best way to get some traffic moving on my blog. Any suggestions appreciated!

    The blog I need help with is danielhynes.net.

  2. You can either read the many tutorials provided about doing that, visit TimeThief's cool blogging tips site, provide content of high and unique quality, cater to greed, vanity and prurient interests, or figure out a method to PAY us for visiting your blog.

    Simple enough?

  3. Oh, and knock the size of your posts down to 1000 words or less. At their current size, you are guaranteeing yourself a very small niche of readers. People have busy lives. Time has value. Fortunately, it looks like you write well, so you should also be able to do it in brief, or break up posts into a series.

  4. post frequently but not too often, keep it simple but unique, and interact with other bloggers. also, i agree with invisiblemikey long posts attract less readers. good luck!

  5. @invisiblemikey That's all really great advice. I really appreciate it!

    @ladyyt Interaction with other bloggers is something I will be looking to do!

  6. use forums and commenting, as other bloggers are you best bet of returning readers, as opposed to the site which just give you one click viewers. Try breaking up posts which will mean you can write more intriguing posts instead of one long post. Best of luck

  7. I agree with @invisiblemikey - white space is your friend.

    I had 0 views for the first 3 weeks until I read this http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/03/10/blogging-tips-tag-to-increase-traffic/

    Once I added tags and started finding other blogs I enjoyed and commented on them I started getting traffic and more importantly a community. I had to define why I wanted traffic in the first place.

  8. Commenting on other blogs is the best way to increase your traffic. Acknowledge the work of others and get fruit. Try this and I bet If you'll not not get twice of the traffic after 10 days(if your content is fair and original), I'll leave blogging.
    But don't post too much comments in a short interval of time, because your account can be blocked.

    Here are 25 basic steps to take to increase traffic to your blog:
    1. Structure a reader and search engine friendly blog;
    2. In blogging content is king create unique, high quality content so publish fresh content frequently;
    3. Learn basic SEO so you can use keywords effectively and apply basic SEO to your headlines, blog and posts;
    Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.
    4. Make your blog posts look professional;
    5. Create at least 4-6 pillar posts and continue to create pillar posts;
    Pillar posts are also referred to as flagship content. Pillar posts are comprehensive posts that offer great value to readers as the contents are timeless in nature. They define you as having authority in the niche you blog in.
    6. Select and link to appropriate anchor text;
    7. Leave meaningful comments on related blogs and encourage comments on your own blog;
    8. Develop relationships with other bloggers so you can build a blog readers’ community around your own blog;
    9. Support the blog centered communities on related blogs by commenting on them and promoting posts from them;
    10. Link to authoritative sources in your posts;
    11. Deep link to your earlier related posts in your new posts;
    12. Assign appropriate categories and tag your posts with care;
    13. Link to related authoritative blogs in your blogroll;
    14. Provide RSS feeds for subscribers;
    RSS (Rich Site Summary or really simple syndication) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.
    15. Having a well designed theme is important, evaluate your theme for effectiveness, and if required, create a new header, make improvements or replace your theme and reduce page loading time;
    16. Avoid cluttering your blog with widgets that lack reader value and slow page loading time;
    17. Buy your own domain and domain mapping;
    18. Verify your blog with the three big search engines.
    19. Get organized, use an online to do list by developing a blogging workflow;
    20. Join social networks and social media sites like Twitter to promote your blog posts;
    21. Promote your blog through Facebook and use social networks, online groups, and selected directories;
    22. Develop a social media time management strategy and stick to it;
    23. Submit your latest pillar article to a blog carnival;
    24. Become a guest blogger on sites with higher page rank than your own site.
    25. Create newsletters and/or ebooks for your subscribers.

  10. Agree with pretty much everyone else here. Getting more quality followers is a time-intensive task. But it is well worth the time you invest in it. Commenting and liking other bloggers is a great way to quickly get your blog in the face of other readers.

    But you want to try and target blogs in your niche for maximum retention. For example, I write a humor/satire blog, and will typically spend an hour each morning surfing through the Humor tag page and commenting on interesting/funny stories. I spend ZERO time looking at photography blogs, because a) I don't find them all that interesting and b) it is unlikely that people that run those blogs would find mine worthy of subscribing to.

    Best of luck to you!

    Post quality content and give yourself time for your blog to grow. Good luck! :)

  12. All you guys are great, thanks.

  13. You're welcome from me. :)

  14. @robrubin, are you suggesting photographer bloggers might not appreciate your wit and satire, that they are without a sense of humour? Give them a go, you might be pleasantly surprised! Everyone loves a laugh!

    @wordsofdan, it's your blog, have fun, be yourself, numbers will come!

  15. I'm not saying they wouldn't - I'm just saying that with the limited time during the day I have to connect with other blogs, I'd rather do it with ones that are in my niche and I would have the best chance of attracting subscribers.

    I usually get about 5-7 new subscribers a week. Not all of them are humorists, but I'd say 85% are.

  16. Find your niche, excel at your niche, promote yourself.

  17. @danielsfunny what way do you promote yourself?
