Bible

  1. Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended. ( Isaiah 60:20)

  2. And?

  3. Thy word oh Lord is a lamp to my feet

  4. As a tree cut down begins to grow up again if its roots remain uninjured and firm, even so when the root of craving remain undestroyed, this suffering arises again and again. The Dhammapada verse 338

  5. As a deer longs for flowing streams so longs my soul for Thee O God

  6. Numbers 31: 17-18. After slaughtering all the male middianites because some Israelite soldiers slept with their women, Moses angrily commands his men (who spared the women and children) to "kill all the males among the little ones and all the women who have been with a man. But the little girlies you may keep for yourselves"

  7. and?

  8. That's kind of awful.

  9. Maybe you and God think differently, maybe the world and God think differently, maybe there is more to it all than you think, but if you ask me whose friendship I like best I will choose God.

  10. I can't believe you like pedophiles, you sick fuck.

  11. 45 flight- you're the one who posted the creepy thing, anyways, so who exactly are you calling a sick fuck? unless you speak about yourself in third person, i suggest you shut up, please and thank you!!

  12. That's why discussing religion over the internet is never a good idea.
You start with one person mildly insulting the other, then name calling, then all the f-bombs and confrontational "shut ups".

  13. I dare say Jesus heard it all when the Roman soldiers were nailing Him to the tree, bad words usually signify lack of debating skills. There is no reason why God should not be discussed along with any other off topic of conversation. As for peodophiles, they have my prayers along with their victims, I doesn't hate anyone.

  14. I used the wrong diction there. I think discussion of religion is fine. However, debate of religious views, or lack of religious views, or branches of religion... etc. over the internet almost always leads to flame and always results in neither side seeing a new light.
No one is changing anyone's views by quoting Bible verses or talking about Russel's teapot.
    But please, do carry on.

  15. Did someone say teapot? :) stick comes with being a bible believing christian, Jesus copped it as did the apostles and before them the prophets. Everyone moans about the state the world is in but God says YOU, you are the problem, naturally people would prefer it if He said everyone else is the problem. I know I've got the problem, man my ol' soul is black as coal, so I am prepared to listen to God's solution. It isn't just over the internet that there is a problem. However it is not true that no-one changes their views, I did, and in fact that is how christianity has spread down the long years of history and is still spreading today. Despite the campaign to stifle all discussion. Jesus is real, He is alive, He is able to change lives, He is able to reach down into the dark pit that some people have gotten themselves into and haul them out. If thou canst only believe all things are possible to [her] that believeth. :)

  16. Cheering4u, that's a quote from the Bible. Just like all the other quotes.

I don't use swears because I lack debating skills, I use them for effect. That response was tongue-in-cheek. If you'd rather I not swear, that's fine.

Please note that I never intended to start a religious debate, I was merely pointing out that there's a whole other spectrum of Bible quotes your priest won't read to you.

But if we're headed that way, the claim that Christianity was spread by discussion and people changing their views is almost entirely untrue. Before and throughout the Middle Ages, if you were captured by the Byzantine Empire, or any of its similar successors, you were forcibly baptized, tortured, or simply killed if you weren't Christian.(I could go into more detail to how Christianity took over, but that will suffice.) Since then, indoctrination, or even watered-down but similar tactics have continued to spread the religion. The 'campaign to stifle discussion' hasn't come from those opposed to Christianity, it's come most frequently from itself.

And as you mentioned towards the end, people tend to find religion most during times of particular depression, during grieving, or other sorts of awful times that everyone has in their lives. Why don’t we hear of people turning to faith when everything’s going good? Why is it only when people are having a rough time of it that they turn to God? Is it because religion preys on these people? Is it because religion values these feelings, and provides a quick fix?

    Just something to think about.

  17. Me I came to Jesus when everything was good.
I only talk [as far as I am able] about Jesus, His claims, His promises so unless you can show anywhere that Jesus commanded people to be tortured that His true disciples should take up arms in His name those kind of arguments don't wash. His words are plain and clear, love your enemies, do good to those who despitefully use you aye and then He led the way. The apostles won over the whole known world and shook the mighty Roman empire to it's roots not by torture or war but by the simplicity of preaching.
Now if you say kings and princes and religious leaders [who actually were political leaders] did wicked stuff using His name as a cloak this is quite true, you have the record of it in your history books, and who were they who were tortured and burned alive, why it was christians of course, men and women who refused to acknowledge the oppressing establishment but rather followed the teachings of Jesus in simple faith.
These were the first champions of free speech and freedom of belief. Jesus said if you continue in my word you are My disciples indeed, so show where Jesus commanded torture or violence to compel anyone to submit.

  18. I mentioned teapot not for this specific thread, but just as an example of what kind of debates usually happen. It's not meant to be taken literally.
Also, my point was not that no one changes her views. My point was that no one changes her views because of someone else telling them something on the internet.
I'm not trying to stifle discussion. I am just pointing out that these discussions do not lead to anything. Actually it does lead to something. It makes the posters feel good about putting their ideas out, and I suppose that's important.

  19. Chai Tea at Starbucks is gooooood, God would love it!

  20. listless, you are talking to a Brit my dear, you cannot mention teapots to a Brit in a light hearted manner and expect to get away with it, aw I'm not sure if we have Starbucks over here, not where I live anyway >L<

Peoples can be changed even by reading something on the net, I have to say there are things about the net I don't quite understand, I mean as a medium of communication, to me it is awesome. Like I never understand why it is not like a book, in the way people read a book, they like it so immediately they look out for something else from that author, that's how I am with books but people do not read the net like that or at least not usually, just a few times people have gotten so hooked on my poetry blog that they want to know every single little thing I've written. I am thinking about a a couple of blogging friends who were so oo ardent a year or so ago, really excited about communicating but now their sites are derelict, that is strange. I know blogging is extremely self-centred we are all like "oh come and read my blog-but I sure ain't gunna read yours" :o hence the trolls who seem to just want to surf around looking for someone to be nasty to. I need another coffee.

Still I think communicating is awesome. I guess people get streamlined, political beasties have there own forums with others who share their particular leanings and religious folk have theirs all split up into their particular tenets and dogmas, then there are the art farts or nature lovers, and there's a thing, what about Membracid? who has become quite a celeb with her bugs??? or raincoaster with her news blog [mind she is a different class of blogger] blogging is a mysterious world.

  21. Haha, should not have brought up tea. ^ ^

Anyways, my point is strictly about debating religion/ lack of religion. At least I have yet to see someone be converted through an argument/ video/ website on the internet.

I do really think communication, blogs, forums, and the internet is an amazing medium for news, information, arts... etc. In fact, I probably read more stuff on the internet than in books. By no means am I saying that the internet is pointless and can't provide anything new views for people. I keep a blog as well, although it's a really superficial blog. ^ ^

I just don't find the point in arguing or even trying to convert someone over the internet.

  22. <quote>...a blogging friends who were sooo ardent about a year or so ago...but now their sites are derelict...<quote>
Hope I'm off of the list, dear GD -- you're so not talking about me in particular, eh? eh??
    *virtual hug*

  23. My dear ol' friend Baba, do you know you are still no.1 on my Blogcatalog page, and I clicked through just the other day, your page is all taken over by ads :( eh those were good ol' days weren't they? Sulzy is gone at least Bloggerdy is no longer updated, and a few others I used to visit, and I must say I go for periods of not updating myself.
But it IS nice to see you, I think you need a bigger platform than a bloggy. hopes you are well. :) Baba4president!
