I changed my blavatar quite a few hours ago but it still isn't appearing in the URL bar (although I have seen it there momentarily but not anymore....)
any ideas why this wouldn't be working?

This is not instantaneous. the images are cached. It frequently takes a few days for blavatar/gravatar images to appear.
