BLOCKING AN UNWANTED FOLLOWER TO A WORDPRESS BLOG.

  1. hi - how does one block a "follower" to ones WordPress blog please?
I have a follower who is an employee of a certain council - that council well known for removing children from good homes, as part of the childstealing agenda now bereft not only in this country, but also worldwide.
Ive read blocking someone cannot be done to a WordPress blog, however, in 2013, i cannot believe one cannot, as surely this is unjustified in every single way. So, how can i block this criminal?
    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is butlincat.wordpress.com.

  2. There is no way to block subscribers/followers. All the things that could be used to block them can easily be gotten around:

** email address (you can get as many as you want)
** username (sign up for a different account, and they don't even need one to subscribe anyway)
** IP address (they can go to a wifi hotspot or reboot their modem)

Also, what is to stop them from just visiting your site, or subscribing to your public RSS feed?

Sorry, but welcome to the internet.

  3. I couldnt disagree more. It is not the internet which is at fault - its whichever site does not have the option to block criminals and trolling schmocks.. Youtube, myspace etc etc have a block option and wordpress arent exactly a small outfit - its surprising. For a ha'peth of tar the ship was sunk, and all that....or put better - for a few dollars more, perhaps...

  4. You can set your blog to Private then only those you invite in can see the contents - the same as the Facebook Private setting of some sort - but with a Private blog you reduce the reach of your Project so nobody will know about what you are doing -

  5. ...there's no such thing as a 'block an individual from looking at my stuff' option on YouTube. You can, however, block people from commenting on your blog:

Modify: Comment Moderation & Comment Blacklist

  6. There is one way: get a restraining order against this person. It's not a technological solution, but it works pretty well.

  7. Blocking unpleasant follower to any blogsite of private or public is need of the hour because of harassing, bullying is increasing day by day. WP should concentrate more on some mechanism to black list user options...

Well you can block people from commenting by email or IP address. If they can read a public site without commenting what harm can they do?

As others have said the nature of the internet means that it is impossible to block anyone who is determined to access a site unless you require a log-in, i.e. have a private blog. This is not something that WordPress could fix in isolation, it would require major changes to the internet. I doubt that this will ever happen because of the privacy issues involved, many people will defend their right to browse the internet anonymously.
